Today marks one year since the VA Tech Massacre.
I found this article interesting out of all of the ones that I have read.
Since April 16, 2007 I have noticed one change. Colleges and Universities across the nation have focused on mass notification for any life threatening event on campus to the students by telephone, cell phone, email, and text message all that same time. This is a great step forward. Yet, with the list of questions below, it's still not enough. These concerns are still hung in the air:
Have colleges/universities across the country stepped up security?
Will states monitor those who are able to buy guns?
Will states let college students carry guns for their own protection?
Will mental health services at colleges/universities be improved?
What angers me so much is that there are always the few people who say "So what" and in this situation "So what, it was only 33 people, lots of people are killed everyday." That angers me so much because it's not about the number, it's about:
A) lives being taken away and those families being changed forever
B) lives of the injured being changed forever
C) not being safe at school because if you can't feel safe at home and at school, where can you feel safe at?
This is all I want to write on this topic because I'm sure you will be reading/hearing a lot about this today.
