She is described as indie-folk-pop and listening to the new EP, I cannot say that I heard much pop. The closest thing to pop would be the song "Be" which needs to be sped up in order for the "pop"! I can't really say that many of the songs are upbeat. There is one song called "Tragedy" and it is definitely the song you listen to when you are having a bad day and are not interested in being uplifted. I really like the keys on the track, "Pillow on the Ground." Musically, I also enjoyed the songs, "Say Goodbye" and "Be Still My Heart" the most. I love all of the musical elements of these songs. "Be Still My Heart" and "I'll Love You Forever & Other Lies" seem inspired musically by the Latino culture. I love this mix. Lyrically I would say my favorite song is "I'll Love You Forever & Other Lies" because it seems like something straight out of a diary that rings so true to many. That just might be my favorite track. I also enjoyed the song, "Memphis" a lot because it is about trying to get over a broken heart and every album needs one great song about that. Vocally, Arrica has this calming voice that makes you want to fall asleep. That meant I had to play each song again so that I could get a better listen! This EP is something I would expect to hear while I am at a cafe, or a song on a television show that is open to indie music, or even the EP to play when you are driving home from work and need to unwind from a long day. I cannot say that Arrica's music is going on my iPod but if you are into very indie folk, than this is for you.
Arrica Rose's new EP, Pretend I'm Fur is available now on iTunes and Amazon.
