BROADWAY TO DIM ITS LIGHTS TONIGHT AT 8 PM
IN MEMORY OF BELOVED THEATRICAL GENERAL MANAGER AND EXECUTIVE PRODUCER GEORGE MACPHERSON
The marquees of Broadway theatres in New York will be dimmed in his memory tonight, Friday, June 5th, at exactly 8:00pm for one minute.
The Broadway League mourns the loss of George MacPherson, who passed away on Wednesday. George was a general manager and executive producer in a career that spanned many decades. He served in leadership roles at Masque Sound, a company that provides sound systems for the majority of Broadway musical productions and concert attractions; Edemol Theatre Productions; ATP Dodger Productions; and his own general management office. He managed many national tours, including Hello, Dolly! starring Yvonne DeCarlo, and served as the personal manager to humorist Victor Borge and entertainer Harry Belafonte. In 1993, George became the second recipient of The Broadway League's Distinguished Lifetime Service Award. He received three Helen Hayes Awards for his productions, the National Touring Council Award for Outstanding Service and he received The Metal of Merit from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for his contribution to the Arts in Canada on the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of her Accession to the Throne. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict where he was a member of the Headquarters Staff of the 8th Army on special assignment to the 5th U.S. Air Force.
