I was introduced to Sugarwall a few weeks ago and I just want to put this out there for anyone who might be interested in this band. This band consists of 4 multi-talented guys from across the US and their record “Find A Way” just released on June 23, 2009.
I would describe their sound as rock with a bit of country. Describing each song on the new album...The vocals on "Find A Way" are great and the song seems like it could be a great single. I understand why it is the first song on the album, it definitely feels like an opener. "Nothing" is a track that could also be a great single. It's one of those songs where you feel the emotion behind the song in the band's voices and instruments. Great stuff. "Missed You" speaks for itself although the lyrics are relatable and catchy so this could easily be a fan favorite. I like the lyrics and instruments in "Goodbye." Even though the song is titled "Goodbye" it is inspirational and about moving on, so I like that. "Forever Now" has a pop edge to it in a sense, as it seems very commercial. That could be good or bad. "Video Star" has a very country feel to it and it is fun to listen to if you like that. "For Your Love" sounds like a song I would hear at a wedding. I'll leave it at that. My least favorite song would have to be "Better Days" because of the overuse of vibrato. I would love to hear a female country artist sing this song instead. The lyrics of this song are great though! "Like Yesterday" is one of my favorite tracks because everything comes together so well. This is one of those songs you put on repeat all day and never get tired of.
I like rock and I like country but there is just not enough sugar in the band and too much vibrato in the songs to make me want to put this music on my iPod. The lyrics are very strong which I like. Although overall, I have a feeling this band is better performing live as opposed to listening to their recorded and edited tracks.
Take a listen for yourself and decide if you are a fan of Sugarwall.
