TV Review: Fugitive Chronicles

Ever want to see what a fugitive does while he's on the run and the police manhunt to bring him down? A&E presents just that in the new original one hour docu-drama series, Fugitive Chronicles.

At the heart of each gripping real-life manhunt will be the cinematic reconstruction of the exhaustive efforts that take place, often in very dangerous conditions, to find and bring a fugitive to justice. Told from the perspective of the hunter and the hunted, these dramatic true-life stories are told through exclusive interviews with law enforcement officials closest to the case and the fugitive’s story based on real interrogation tapes, court transcripts and news footage. Officials will share exactly when they learned of the fugitive’s flight, what their first course of action was and how they went about executing their heart-pounding takedown.

In the Pilot episode, Danny Ray Horning is the fugitive viewers will follow. Convicted of 4 counts of armed robbery and kidnapping, Danny escaped prison after 6 months for 2 months and what an interesting 2 months this was. Danny survived in the wilderness for weeks before breaking into the local Texas homes for food and weapons. He held hostages, attempted to kidnap an entire family for ransom, and his case was so well known (a reason you will learn when you watch) that he became a local celebrity. Though finally after over a 400 policeman search, Danny was captured and what a wild ride it was to watch! Fugitive Chronicles is an entertaining and quite intriguing series that is definitely worth the watch with the whole family. There are good actors who were hired for the re-enactments, which are actually quite thrilling at times. The interviews held with those attached to each case really provide an eye opening and thought provoking look into not only the case but their role as law enforcement and then how they feel and react just as people. Overall, the show is not as gritty as other A&E shows, but it is still good television. Though the choices that the fugitives have made may be frightening, you'll come away having learned quite a bit and possibly re-evaluating how much you really think about your safety. So sit down and watch this with the whole family each week, you won't be disappointed.

Fugitive Chronicles premieres April 1, 2010 at 10/9c on A&E.

DVD Review: Nostradamus Effect

What's going to happen when the end of the world is near? The History Channel attempts to answer this question with Nostradamus Effect on DVD today.

The end is near. At least that’s what the doomsday predictions from Nostradamus, the Book of Revelation, the Mayan “long count” calendar and others would have us believe. Many unsettling forecasts of global destruction -- a massive cosmic collision, a global environmental disaster, an Armageddon-like religious showdown, or a more subtle transformation -- even pinpoint the year: 2012. How worried should we be? If these prophecies are accurate and inevitable, is there any way to avoid or at least postpone them from coming true? Nostradamus Effect: The Complete Season One, a captivating new series from History explores how the end of the world will begin.

Michel de Nostradamus was a 16th-century French physician and astrologer whose very name is synonymous with apocalyptic visions of the near and distant future. His ominous writings, in the form of 1,000 four-line quatrains, appear to have accurately anticipated numerous natural disasters, plagues and wars.

Release Date: March 30, 2010
Feature Running Time: 9 hours, 24 minutes

Nostradamus Effect is quite an eye opening series that presents prophecies and theories about the end of the world events. There are 12 one hour episodes, not all of them based on the beliefs of Nostradamus. In fact, it's odd that this is titled the Nostradamus Effect when much of what is discussed in the episodes was known before his time (i.e. the rapture, seven deadly sins, etc...). Regardless, the series as a whole is good because it presents facts, research, and theories without making judgments and/or persuading viewers into different beliefs. Actually, viewers will be encouraged to get out and conduct more research of what they will learn in these episodes. Though for those interviewed for this series, (experts, theologists, authors, etc...) there should have been more people interviewed who were more specifically accredited and passionate about the topics at hand, not generally accredited. By trying to remain unbiased, the information from those interviewed fell somewhat flat and the narration was better than the talking heads. As I believe in the rapture and tribulation, it was interesting to see what was and was not shared in the episodes, "The Rapture" and "Secrets of the Seven Seals." This encourages me to stress that these episodes really are just an overview of tons of information that is out there about the end times. So definitely check out the DVD, as it is very informational but don't let this be the only or the last outlet that you learn from about this topic.

Strange Facts About Nostradamus
– This features shares 12 facts in the text format about the life of Nostradamus, 2 according to legends, and one very interesting fact stating that according to The New York Times, the top search term on Google in the days after 9/11 was “Nostradamus.” If you are interested in the life of Nostradamus, this is a resourceful feature, otherwise, there is nothing fascinating to be seen here.

DVD Review: The Jacksons - A Family Dynasty

This March, A&E Home Entertainment gives home viewers an "all-access pass" into the lives of America’s most news worthy family with The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty.

Straight from the tabloids to the television, this intimate docu-series -- seen by over 4.2MM viewers on its debut night -- chronicles the turbulent personal and professional lives of the Jackson brothers as they reunite in the aftermath of the passing of their beloved brother, Michael. This is the opportunity to know the Jacksons like never before with this six-hour glimpse into the “First Family of American Music.” The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty is an unprecedented chronicle of the brothers’ relationships with each other, their parents and their children, while illustrating the difficult-to-balance demands of their professional commitments and celebrity.

Release Date: March 30, 2010
Running Time: 4 hours, 42 minutes

The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty is a good collection for major Jackson 5 fans but for the rest of us is quite a waste of time. The brothers all have similar goals in mind but go after everything in their own way. Therefore...nothing that the brothers want to accomplish gets accomplished. It's almost hard to watch because these guys are trying to make music as The Jackson 5, but the main star is not there, so it's ultimately a waste of time...especially since the music they came up with was not hit music...far from it. They can be proud of being Michael Jackson's brother but they will never match the success of him, so why try? This show is hilarious and not in a good way. It's so bad that you can't help but laugh. It's bad because the brothers, mainly Jermaine try to be perceived a certain way in front of the cameras instead of just relaxing and living life as if the cameras were not there. It's not scripted but it is all very calculated. Quite irritating...Jermaine is such a diva and seemed to be more over the top than any of the other brothers. It's all really just so pitiful to see. This series barely gives any insight into the many fascinating places that the series could have gone. One thing is for sure, the Jacksons may have been the stars of their day, but that day is over, the spark has faded.

There are no special features accompanying this DVD.

The Jacksons: A Family Dynasty is available on DVD now.

Connor Fox on Mothman & More

Sci fi fans, I want to introduce you to Connor Fox who you can watch in the upcoming Syfy TV movie, Mothman - one of the many other places you will soon be able to see him on both the big and small screen.

McDreamy who? Oh wait..where was I...

This actor doesn't stop at working in front of the camera. He is multi talented with acting, writing, and producing credits! In the interview below, Connor talks quite a bit about Mothman, as well as the 2 television Pilots he is attached to, 2 screenplays he has written, his The Twilight Zone inspired TV series, comics, and more. He is a star on the rise, so get to know him here and now before he graces the cover of People Magazine's Most Beautiful/Inspiring/Powerful People.

How did you get involved in the film, Mothman?
I was actually filming another movie in New Mexico and my manager wanted me to audition for this project but I couldn't since I was out of town. So I had my director put me on tape, I sent it over, and they liked it! I then did an iChat audition and ended up booking it through iChat. I didn't have a reader or a laptop, so I bought a laptop for the audition and ended up bumping into a guy who used to be an agent for CAA to be my reader. Oddly enough, we became friends and have been talking ever since.

Sonny Lee & Patrick Walsh are best known for their comedic writing on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, so is there a comedic edge in the script for Mothman?
They did actually. Every now and then they allowed themselves to make fun of certain things in the script. It's really good writing.

What drew you into the script the most?
The opening catches you right off the bat. It was something I had never seen done before. The premise is based off of a group of kids who accidentally kill one of their friends. I won't tell you how it happens but it is all very original.

What was your favorite part about working with Jewel Staite?
It was great! She is very down to earth and she has been in the business for a long time so working with her everyday, you learn something new all of the time. It was very cool.

And working with the director, Sheldon Wilson?
He makes you feel comfortable. He really allows you the freedom to do improv and you can do anything with him.

What is your favorite element of sci fi?
I love the idea that you can do something that no one else can do in any other genre.

Would you be interested in doing more sci fi work?
For sure, sci fi is my favorite genre to work in so I would love that.

Well now if you could appear on any Syfy show, which show would it be?
It would be so nice if they remade Sliders and let me be Quinn Mallory. I would definitely love to appear on Stargate too.

Of all of the actors you have worked with, who have you learned from the most?
I worked with Jewel a lot, so I definitely learned a lot from her. I worked with Efren Ramirez (Napoleon Dynamite) on a film and he is one of those guys where you never know what he is going to say. He has such range. I learned from him that you can do anything and get away with it, as long as you believe it is true.

Can you tell me about your writing/producing projects, Sintax and The Chest?
Sintax is a family dark comedy that revolves around a rich family whose father dies and the siblings go about different ways to off each for his money. So that's pretty fun. Then, The Chest is a feature film, a sci fi adventure comedy. I can't talk too much about it but it is about a group of college kids who find a trunk full of magic and they decide to use it to be cool in college. I also have a series concept, based on my favorite sci fi series of all time, The Twilight Zone. Then, I have a comic book series, "The Last Planet" which is in early development.

What is the status of the two pilots you are attached to, Evan and Gareth (Comedy Central) and Have You Slept With Me? (Fox)?
Have You Slept With Me belongs to Fox but it is still being pitched around and Evan and Gareth hasn't been green lit but it has been shot and post production is done...I believe Comedy Central is just looking for the right time for it.

Where would you say your passion lies most...acting, writing, producing?
Definitely acting. For me, writing is a great outlet where as an actor I find myself with a lot of downtime on set and when I am not working and waiting for the next film, so I need to get that creative energy out. The producing aspect, I've played with that a bit but definitely want to get more involved with that in the future.

Mothman airs April 24, 2010 only on Syfy.

DVD Review: Fantastic Mr. Fox

Academy Award winning Hollywood heavyweights George Clooney (Up In The Air) and Meryl Streep (It’s Complicated) lend their voices to the hilarious, heartwarming and dazzling stop-motion animated adventure from visionary director Wes Anderson (The Royal Tenebaums) in Fantastic Mr. Fox which is available on DVD today.

Release Date: March 23, 2010
U.S. Rating: PG
Run Time: 97 minutes

In there-imagined classic family tale, Mr. and Mrs. Fox (Clooney and Streep) live a happy home life with their eccentric son Ash (Jason Schwartzman: The Darjeeling Limited) and visiting nephew Kristopherson. That is until Mr. Fox slips into his sneaky, old ways and plots the greatest heist the animal world has ever seen. When mean old farmers Boggis, Bunce and Bean join forces to surround Mr. Fox and his family, they don’t realize they are not dealing with any old fox – it’s Fantastic Mr. Fox and he has a fantastic master plan to save the day! Based on the beloved best-selling book by Roald Dahl (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), Fantastic Mr. Fox is family fun at its finest. Anderson employs a colorful supporting cast to bring his eccentric characters to life including Bill Murray (Lost In Translation), Owen Wilson (Marley & Me) and Willem Dafoe (Spiderman triology).

Fantastic Mr. Fox is quite a fascinating adaptation of Roald Dahl's book of the same title. Seeing Dahl's work come to life never ceases to amaze, especially this time with Wes Anderson directing. This film will make you appreciate stop-motion animated films like you never have before as the sets and characters visually stunning to look at. For this reason alone, it will top your list for favorite animated films of 2009. If you thought that this story was already emotionally engaging...you are in for a treat. If you thought that this story was just for children...you may be surprised to know that adults may take more out of it than children. Believe me, you will be engrossed in this film before you even realize it, as it's quirky, it's witty, it's charming, and it's genuine. And the film wouldn't be the same without the fabulous score by Alexandre Desplat. Definitely pick up your Blu-ray or DVD copy today so you don't miss out on the all of the fun.

Bonus Features:

From Script to Screen
- This feature was quite a general behind the scenes look into the making of the film. Only briefly is it mentioned that whole scenes and characters were expanded in the film and the original dialogue from the book remained in the film. There is no greater detail into the first, and it's a shame because it would have been quite interesting to find out why certain things in the book did not make it as well as why and how certain things were added and expanded on. With such a unique project on Anderson's hands, it is stated that more decisions were made for this film than in a live action film...but not until it is stated that there are 29 units as opposed to the 1 unit Anderson usually works with, does it really hit home for the viewers. Along with that, viewers get to see storyboards, and some of the animation being edited together. This feature was a brief informational look at how the film came together, but with such a complex project, I expected more depth overall. Director, Wes Anderson, Producers, Allison Abbate and Jeremy Dawson, Animation Director, Mark Gustafson, Production Designer, Nelson Lowry, and Actor, Bill Murray all appear in this special feature.

Still Life (Puppet Animation) - This was quite a fascinating and eye opening look on the set of Fox. Viewers will come to appreciate stop motion animation all the more after seeing all of the hard work and endless hours put into such a film. Everything from the challenges of facial expressions and difficulties shooting after a temperature change to the definition of the industry term, "hot set" is shared in this feature. Storyboards, animation test footage, and much more is shown, which all give a great behind the scenes look into the hard work completed by the talented crew behind this film. This feature was very well edited and is definitely worth the watch. Director, Wes Anderson, Producers, Allison Abbate and Jeremy Dawson, Animation Director, Mark Gustafson, Puppet Fabrication Supervisor, Andy Gent, and Director of Photography, Tristan Oliver all appear in this special feature.

A Beginner’s Guide to Whack-Bat - In case you missed what was explained in the incredibly fast explanation of the game of Whack-Bat in the movie...here is a very brief and slower paced guide detailing the players, the equipment, and the game of Whack-Bat. With both the game explained in the film and this guide...you might just understand the game!

TV Week in Review

*Reviews May Contain Spoilers*

Gossip Girl - The Sixteen Year Old Virgin

Jenny: I'm a virgin. I just wanted you to know, in case...I just wanted you to know.

This was a great episode! My favorite story line was with Dan & Vanessa. Dan being incredibly cautious and paranoid about Vanessa in front of Rufus was hilarious! I laughed so hard when he said he would draw V a map about the friends, friends with benefits zones. I laughed even harder when V did what she had to do to get him to relax. Great writing and great acting. I loved every moment of it. Still not a lot going on with Chuck & Blair as a couple, being as Chuck is dealing with a lot of family drama right now. I'm surprised Blair is not helping Chuck and getting a background check on his mother. But his mother is quite irritating so I don't even want to dwell on her. As for the others...Nate & Serena focused on not themselves but on Jenny and made a a decent team...but nothing compares to Chuck & Blair. They tried to persuade Jenny not to have sex with her boyfriend and they did not succeed. So umm, more Blair & Chuck scheming instead please. Or all of them scheming together, but at least Chuck or Blair has to be involved. As for little J...she is a big annoyance actually. Her character has changed so much and not in a good way. When a character is so unlikable that I don't even root for her to rise above the nonsense, something is wrong. The past 2 episodes have been so good and have made me fall in love with all of the characters except Jenny all over again. The big question is, will Jenny be likable before the season is over?

90210 - What's Past Is Prologue

Liam: Suspended from school? Sounds more like a vacation.

Navid: You ever face disappointed Persian parents? My own mother said I urinated on the legacy of my ancestors.

This was quite an entertaining episode. The writing has been especially great these past few episodes! First, Dixon inviting his birth mother to stay the night at their house put Debbie in quite an overwhelmed state if her arrival didn't already have Debbie in a tizzy. It's all understandable but what's next for this family? What is Dixon's birth mother's aim? One person who has a clear goal in mind is Jasper. Jasper stalking Annie is not cool at all! She needs to tell her parents what is going on. I would say go to Naomi and her friends to help devise a plan to bring Jasper down but she is responsible for killing a man, so she is just as guilty, if not more than Jasper. Even if there was a way for Annie to make Jasper out to be the bad guy without getting caught up in her guilt herself...it wouldn't seem right. Speaking of what's right and what's wrong...Silver doubting Teddy's loyalties to her and sending Gia to spy on him was quite fun to see, until things turned out to not be in Silver's favor. Of course Silver can't keep anything to herself when she feels guilty, so now Teddy needs space. Nobody can hate on Silver for doing the right thing when she does something "wrong" but it is interesting to think about what is right and what is wrong, especially when it comes to Silver. That's what I like about her character. She is so complex and in an intriguing and thought provoking way. Lastly though, Amber Wallace (One Tree Hill) guest starred as Lila who went on a hot date with Navid and was a member of the band Adrianna auditioned for and got into. Adrianna trying to get Navid back quietly or at least keeping tabs on him and Navid seeming to being moving on...ah it was so sad to see. While Navid can do better in a sense, Ad & Navid seem so right! Maybe not though...maybe if Ad tried having a relationship with Gia, she could discover that females are better for her. Only time will tell.

Melrose Place - Mulholland

Lauren: Look Riley, you just came out of a 5 year relationship that didn't end well. Have some fun.

Good episode. Now that Lauren is in this predicament of Michael blackmailing her for knowing about her other job, will Lauren come clean to David soon or will Michael's plan out her? Does it matter as much now that Lauren broke up with David? Will neither of those options play out and will David find out on his own about Lauren? I say this because after being broken up right after the "Noah is my son from Vanessa" confession...what Lauren said to him might encourage him to find out what path she is on and how he can fit into it. Does the ring David was trying to steal from Morgan's family (Melissa Ordway) have anything to do with wooing Lauren or it's simply for his business plans? As for the other couple...Ella and Jonah on their first outing as a couple was sweet until Ella turned it into work, which then brought on an argument and the two giving each other space. These two are so cute together and yet so complex with such different lifestyles...it will be interesting to see where these two are by the end of the season, if they are still together. Lastly, Riley kissing her boss was not cool, especially since Amanda found out through her PI. It was unfortunate but expected for her boss to give her an ultimatum and a very intelligent choice for Riley to break up with him and leave the job with her head held high. Riley rose above the nonsense. So is a relationship with Drew next? Good episode but I'm still not as excited about watching this show as I was when it first began.

Ugly Betty - Million Dollar Smile

Betty: I hit my head...I don't know, maybe I have a concussion or...

What an exciting episode this was! Kathy Najimy guest starred as Dr. Frankel who takes Betty to an alternate reality after a bump on the head. Alternate realities are my favorite episodes in TV shows and this was no different. Viewers got to see Hilda as the ugly sister, with no son, and marrying a much older man. Ignacio was a gambler and seemed to have no sight of his morals and family lifestyle. At work, Betty seemed to have made it to the top after being Wilhelmina's assistant! Which of course meant that Marc assisted Betty. Though he was as nice as can be to Betty's face, he was terrified of her and what a sight that was. At least his personal life seemed stable and satisfying, with a partner and baby girl. Will we get to see Marc fall in love before the series is over? The most painful part of the alternate reality was watching Amanda be a best friend to Betty instead of Marc. Amanda + Marc forever! Also disappointing but expected in a way was finding Amanda and Daniel as a married couple, both cheating on each other. They are best off in an open relationship, alternate reality or not. Lastly in the alternate reality...it really hurt to see Claire butting heads with Betty since their relationship in the real world is so genuine and nice and heartwarming in a sense to see. There's a bit more that is said and seen in the alternate reality that I won't spoil because it is just all so good! I will say that it was incredibly refreshing to see America Ferrera as a pretty Betty. America is gorgeous and it is about time we saw that under all of the "ugliness" created for the ugly Betty character. In reality, it should not have surprised me that Betty would be getting her braces taken off at work (well at a work event). Her work life and personal life never cease to part. Betty getting her braces off was just the beginning of Betty's transformation but such a pivotal moment in the show as it makes the mark of the end of the series seem all the closer. It was so bittersweet to watch and this wasn't even the last episode.

Vampire Diaries - A Few Good Men

Damon: If she's related to Elena maybe she's related to Katherine and Katherine sent her to me. It can't be a coincidence that Isobel sought me out.

This was another great episode full of revelations and questions. In the beginning of the episode, Elena found out that Alaric's wife is her birth mother and at this point believes she had died. She continues to look for more answers about her birth parents and seems to almost get herself into the same dangerous predicament after visiting Trudy as she was in when she got in a car accident not too long ago. But it doesn't take long for both Elena and Alaric to find out more as they both learn that Damon did not kill Isobel, but he turned her! Alaric had quite a lot to deal with in this episode, finding out he has a daughter and finding out his wife is indeed a vampire. Since Alaric is protected by Isobel's ring, will Damon come after Alaric again or is it not even worth it? Will Alaric search for Isobel or will Isobel send a warning to him like she did to Elena? Now that Elena has heard the voice of her birth mother...surely that will drive her even more to finding her, despite the warning. It will be quite a journey for her in the next few episodes and I really hope she comes face to face with her birth mother before the season is over. Aside from the main story line, Melinda Clarke (The OC) guest starred as Matt's mother. How many episodes will she appear in? Whatever the number, it needs to be more because I can't get enough of her! Lastly, I have no idea what is going on with the vampire that escaped the tomb and is now meeting and scheming with Anna and her mother. I honestly thought the Anna story line was over with so I'm not too thrilled to see this go on. Overall, this was such a good episode and I am anticipating what is coming next for Elena.

Flash Forward - Blowback

Zoey: Baby, I'm scared. I don't want you to die.

What an intriguing episode all about the lengths one will go for the one they love. Quite a shocker right out of the gate in this episode! Who knew Aaron had a criminal past?! This episode focused on Aaron trying to figure out why a black-ops unit was looking for his daughter. The moment he opened his mouth and told his friend that his daughter was at his house, I knew it was on. It was so Edge of Darkness. Looking forward to seeing what Aaron does to reunite with his daughter. As for the others in this episode...Zoey going to Mark about Demetri's future murder was bold and smart but it didn't get her anywhere and showed more of Mark's colors...he would be willing to kill Demetri if he was a traitor. Hmmm. What did surprise me (why it did, I don't know since...why wouldn't you go the distance for the one you love?) was Zoey going to Mark's workplace and demanding to look at the classified Mosaic files. Good thing girl's a lawyer...otherwise this kind of help would not be available to her. Can Zoey make a positive difference or will she also be putting herself in danger? As for Mark...Mark and Lloyd putting the pieces together of their flash forwards was interesting to see because it almost makes me believe that the two are not just working together but friendly to each other in the future, despite the love triangle. Lastly, Janis trying to get pregnant was so heartwarming to see since she finally is taking action into her beliefs that she doesn't want her life to be all about the FBI. It's amazing what a little peak into the future will do for someone's hope and outlook on life. This was such a powerful episode and one of my favorites of the season because it was incredibly engaging and thrilling in every moment. Looking forward to many more of those moments.

The Office - Happy Hour

Michael: Hi, I'm date Mike. Nice to meet me. How do you like your eggs in the morning?

Episodes have been more dramatic recently, so this was a pleasant surprise. There was lots to laugh at and there were no incredibly awkward moments either. Everyone going out for drinks was quite entertaining to watch since Pam came out of the house to hang out, she tried to hook Michael up with her friend, Julie, Dwight reconnected with Pam's friend, Isabel, and lots more! I was quite surprised that Dwight chose Isabel over Angela and that Isabel stayed with Dwight for the moment even after finding out about Dwight's agreement with Angela. As far as healthy relationships go...Erin and Andy trying to keep their relationship a secret was hilarious and so unnecessary! Thankfully it didn't last long because if anyone in the office didn't know what was going on with these two, they were not paying any attention. Lastly, Oscar trying to score a date with his co-worker was interesting since this story line kind of came up to the surface in quite a random sense. Not sure what to think about this story line in regards to how much we are going to see. It would be nice to see more, so hopefully this is not too minor in future episodes. Overall, this was a great episode and focused on many of the characters as opposed to about a few, so that was nice. This was definitely more enjoyable than the past few episodes...though still not up to par with how funny we all know this show can be. I am really looking forward to an incredible episode to air before the season is over.

Caprica - End of Line

Tamara: You're wasting your life. I don't want you watching me... because if that's all you do, that's all you'll ever do.

What a fantastic mid-season finale! There were some amazing revelations and many more questions that arose from this episode. Zoe attempting to escape was a moment we all had been waiting for, so that was quite exhilarating to see. Now that Zoe has crashed and the cylon has ultimately been destroyed...how will her avatar make it into the real world again? How and when will Daniel tell Amanda about all that has been going on with Zoe? Will Amanda and Daniel have a more open dialogue after Daniel's confession and Amanda's suicide attempt? After losing a daughter, finding out that your husband hired people to kill and steal for him, and dreaming about her dead brother, I'd say it's understandable why Amanda has been so down. But will she have another chance to attempt suicide again or will she go into a recover program? Will Sister Clarice take advantage of Amanda's weakness and continue to use Amanda to get to Daniel's work or will she back off? Will Lacy go to Sister Clarice and tell her she was supposed to kill her to honor Barnabas who is the STO or will Sister Clarice find out somehow? Is Lacy able to leave the STO or will her life be on the line if she chooses to do so? Aside from the questions that arose after watching this episode...a big shocker of the night was finding out that the woman helping Joseph in Cap City was his mother! I would really much rather like that Joseph never find out that tid bit...or if he does, years from now when he is in the right frame of mind to accept and understand why she did what she did. Joseph watching Tamara "die" and then being killed in Cap City by Tamara herself, stopping him from ever coming back was heartbreaking and yet so very much needed. Though with the news at Upfront that this story line has not wrapped up, one can only imagine what is next for Joseph to deal with. There is so much in store for the second half of the season and the writers did a fabulous job setting up what is sure to be only a portion of what they have planned. Last week and this week's episodes are my favorite of the season and portray clearly why I love this show so much. I can't wait for new episodes to air this fall.

TV Week in Review

*Reviews May Contain Spoilers*

Gossip Girl - The Lady Vanished

Rufus: See I look at you and I don't see my daughter anymore.

This was a decent episode. There was nothing that stood out as quite memorable though it was quite a powerful moment when Elizabeth revealed her history with Bart and Chuck. I wasn't surprised that she didn't marry Bart. Though it's quite interesting that after all of these years of not wanting to be in Chuck's life, Elizabeth wants to be in his life now. Especially knowing that she requested Bart tell Chuck she was dead so he wouldn't look for her. There's got to be more to this story line since she's in New York for good (...or for the time being?). There's lots more relationship drama in the big city as Rufus and Lily seem as far apart as ever. It feels like the ink has barely dried on their marriage license and already it seems what is best for them is a divorce. I know Rufus sent Jenny back to Brooklyn, but it wouldn't surprise me if Dan and Rufus moved back in soon too. Rufus sending Jenny back to Brooklyn so she could get her act together was the best move Rufus has made in awhile. The drugs took things to a new level, but just for a quick moment...wish Damien let her take the fall. She was right in questioning their relationship after she took the fall. They need to not mix "business" with pleasure and cutting all ties would be nice. Jenny needs much better influences in her life. As for Dan...Dan and Vanessa trying to be friends now that they have tried the relationship route...it's all just so awkward and I don't like it. They need to spend some time apart and evaluate what they really want from each other and come back and recollect. As far as reconnecting goes...now that Serena does not want to see her father anymore, (SPOILER) he is of course going to come into town in a future episode to explain himself. That's not a mystery. What is a mystery though is why he will be coming to town now rather than before. I am anticipating his visit and hoping Serena can find the closure she thought she found in this episode, in what is to come when her father arrives. Hopefully that will have more of a positive effect on her relationships too. Only time will tell.

90210 - Girl Fight!

Liam: I've been feeling distant from you ever since we got back together. I couldn't figure out what was wrong. Why we weren't connecting. You've been so polite, so unlike the girl I fell for.

Naomi: I just wanted everything to be perfect. I guess somehow that translated into me not being myself.

Liam: Well then you're done with that because the girl I fell for is ballsy, opinionated, and full of herself and today I finally saw her again.

This was a great episode! Silver telling Dixon that she doesn't have the same feelings for him but likes having Dixon back in her life as a friend was helpful for her but definitely hurt Dixon. I wonder how long it will take Dixon to get over her. I wonder how long Silver & Teddy will last because I honestly don't see the two lasting all that long, like years. Dixon telling Teddy the truth was bold and thankfully both took this confession better than I thought. But when all is said and done, I'd rather see Silver with Dixon as opposed to Silver & Teddy. As for the other love triangle... Naomi inviting Ivy to spend time with her and Liam was hilarious and for a moment a bit disappointing since it took Naomi quite some time to see that Ivy was still into Liam. Seeing the two duke it out was disheartening since someone is always going to walk away hurt in these situations. It is so hard to say which girl would be best for Liam because they both seem so great for him. It seems Naomi may have won this battle (for now) but it will be interesting to see how this completely plays out. From one unfortunate situation to another...Jasper trying to blackmail Annie even more and trying to force her to have sex with him was incredibly disturbing. Thankfully, Annie (finally) stood up for herself and eventually accepted the fact that she needed to confess. Unfortunately her feelings for Jasper are so deep that even when she tries to stand her ground, his sweet lies work on. We've seen the lengths Jasper is willing to go to get his way so this does not seem like it will end well, or more well than any of us originally though. Only time will tell. As for the others...there was not much story development with Adrianna or Navid. Navid is in jail and Ad is spending more time with Gia. Is this story line about a friendship, experimenting, or about Ad finding her true sexual identity? I'd definitely rather it be the first or latter and the writers are doing a good job introducing this relationship so far, so all us viewers can do is trust they know what they are doing. Lastly, this episode ended with quite a surprise! Who knew Dixon's mom would come to his house to visit him? That is a big step for her and a big leap of faith for Harry & Deb, as the question will of course arise as to what Dixon's biological mom's intentions are. Does she want to get to know Dixon from afar or as a present parent in his life from hereon out? There's quite a lot to take in from this short moment and great job on leaving us viewers with this to ponder until the next episode.

Melrose Place - Stoner Canyon

Drew: When's the last time you laughed?
Lauren: I'm not here to laugh.

This episode kept my attention very much. It was very well written and full of surprises. Just when I thought I was so over this show...well, I'm not over the show just yet. David finding out that he is the father of Noah and not his dad...wow. What a shocker. Michael seems like he wants to destroy David after hearing the news...but how far will he go? Where does this leave David's relationship with Noah? Will anyone tell Noah? This is all so scandalous, I love it and cannot wait to see how this story line unfolds. Going from 10 to 0 for a moment...Amanda is broke...good for her! That's all I have to say about Amanda because she was not a priority in this episode. Not so good for business though is the meeting Ella set up for Jonah. Riley joining Jonah on his business meeting went quite well and was hilarious at first but then an argument ensued. Everybody seemed to lose a bit of something after that meeting but one thing is for sure, Ella gained some clarity... she will never win Jonah's heart...no matter how hard she tries. As for Riley...will she play nice with the new neighbor, Drew? Last but certainly not the least, Lauren being blackmailed by Michael now that he knows her secret...will she go through with breaking David's heart? Or will she confess to David and ask for help in taking Michael down (as well as herself in a sense, hopefully not for too long)? Great episode...looking forward to more.

Flash Forward - Revelation Zero: Parts 1 & 2

Janis: Did you really think you could leave the country without being noticed?

Simon: "Country" is such a loose term. It's Canada.

What an incredibly jam packed 2 hour return! There were so many revelations! There was so much going on...the best way to approach this is by character, starting with Mark. In his personal life, Mark and Olivia aren't facing their relationship issues upfront and need to do so before their flash forwards come true. In a sense it seems like they believe avoiding their feelings and hoping for the best will make everything work out for them, despite their actions which prove otherwise. As for Mark's professional life...well, it is lacking as of now since he loses his badge due to his outburst in Hong Kong. Two good things come out of this though...one, Mark creates the mosaic board at home which gives him more time and leeway in a sense to gather his flash forward clues. Two, he is forced to see a psychologist to get back his badge and the psych gives him a drug to help him with his memory. This is good because more is revealed from his flash forward. The most significant things revealed, at least for the time being is the "help us" sign that Lloyd has recently made (as Lloyd has been kidnapped by Flasso) and the phone call Mark made to Lloyd in regards to there being another blackout! Were Mark & Lloyd working together? When will another black out occur and will there be time to prepare (so that everyone is safe)? Speaking of Lloyd, I am still uncertain as how to he amplified the flash forwards. I understand that he did not cause it now but so much took place in this episode, something may have gone over my head. What didn't go over my head though was the second part of this episode, which was far more interesting. Through this episode, I have come to sympathize more with Simon as opposed to target him as the enemy. Finding out that Simon was the one awake at the baseball field and was totally unaware of what was happening was quite a shock! Does finding out all that he has been through justify what he has done thus far? Hmm... So quickly, as for those with more respectable jobs...it is quite frustrating to see Demetri trying to prevent and solve his future murder with such a distracting partner who can't hold his own. Thankfully Janis gave us a comedic edge as she watched over Simon while he searched for more information about what Lloyd has been up to. Lastly, at the hospital, Nikki saw the person trying to drown her in her flash forward! How terrifying and exhilarating that must have been for her! I am anxiously anticipating more to be revealed about her flash forward, who that man is and why he may do what she saw. I say "may" because a nurse leads Nicole to a group called Sanctuary, where she meets Timothy. Timothy has quite the miracle survival story from the day of the flash forward and then poses the question, are the flash forwards a combination of fate and free will? Personally, I'd say yes since that is life. I don't think there is anything complex about answering that question though that does not make it any less interesting to watch and see what the characters on the show choose to do. While the first part of this episode was a little too all over the place for me and the second part did not do justice in covering more bases with various characters...this show has so much mystery and action and it is all so very intriguing that I can't wait to see what's next and how this first season will wrap up. Hopefully things aren't to jumpy in future episodes and there is a better balance when covering the main characters. Good episodes!

The Office - New Leads

Michael: You just made an enemy with the wrong guy Dwight.

For a half hour comedy, this episode had quite a lot of drama. Michael creating clues and riddles for those in sales to find their leads would have been a fun activity if the leads weren't so important. He wasted time, the reasoning for his actions were immature, and some leads ended up in the city dump! Not cool. Thankfully, this is not a real docu-series because what a disaster that would be. This episode was daring in going the extra mile in creating tension and a dramatic tone in the office. Phyllis was so rude to Angela and really, their dislike for each other should be over by now. Enough time has passed for them to be civil. It was great to see Pam still being helpful even at home and solving the clue for Jim but I was taken aback when Kelly of all people didn't cave in and look at the baby picture. Erin helping out Andy with finding his lead was fun to watch since Andy thought she was seducing him. But does anyone else find it incredibly disappointing that Erin & Andy had a kiss in a dump? Michael and Dwight fighting in the dump was disgusting and definitely was a moment I would rather have not seen. Even more disturbing was seeing the two bring back a chair. It's not it was a garage sale they picked it up at. Anyway, overall I was not thrilled with this episode. There can still be good character development and story development with comedy, there just has to be more thought into how it will be done after so many seasons...turning this show into a dramedy is not something many Office fans would appreciate being that this show has such a signature comedic way...even when it's good it just seems so wrong.

Ugly Betty - All the World's a Stage

Justin: Thanks. I feel better now.

Marc: Good...I've never felt more alone.

This was quite a special episode, not only because of the entertaining characters and incredibly well written story lines...but the guest stars - Carol Kane (The Bounty Hunter) and the amazing Aaron Tveit (Next to Normal the Musical). The first was intertwined in Justin's story line as his theatre teacher. Though there was quite a lot more to be excited about in theatre class as Justin had his first kiss with a boy! All this time he was aiming for Lily when Marc and all of the viewers were anticipating this moment from the beginning! Great scene! Now that Justin has taken this step, it will be interesting to see how much further along he gets in being comfortable with his sexual identity in the last few episodes of the series. The second guest star, Tveit was intertwined in Betty's story line as her subject for Mode turned romantic interest. Unfortunately the latter didn't work out and while I want to say it's a shame...it's really not. Betty has done better so there is no reason to settle for this. Something good did come out of this experience of Betty's though as she was given the number of an orthodontist! Seeing her make an appointment to get her braces off is exciting but sad at the same time since it signals the end which is creeping up on us viewers quite fast! It was a perfect way to end the episode. But before the end, quite a bit more took place for other characters. Hilda was on cloud nine, trying to figure out how to show off her engagement ring. Interestingly enough, her fiance was nowhere in sight. I'm sure this means nothing...it was just interesting that he wasn't at Justin's play. From the Suarez family to Mode...Marc, Amanda, and even the patient rooming with Wilhelmina all meant well but Willie didn't perceive that help in the way that they had envisioned. Now that her vision is to buy and take over Meade completely, this has definitely raised the bar as to the drama that will ensue between her and Daniel/Claire/possibly Claire's other son. While I want Willie to be happy in the end, I'm conflicted with whether or not I want to see her have the entire company! This is when it is very important to trust the writers and not create any high expectations so that I can be satisfied with whatever the outcome is. Looking forward to seeing how everything wraps up!

Caprica - Ghosts in the Machine

Daniel: Here's the deal. I love my dog but I love my daughter even more. And if there's even a slight chance that some small part of her is tangled up in your skeleton, I've got to know.

If you want to know why I love Caprica so much, this is the episode to watch (and the mid season finale episode that airs next Friday). Joseph taking an amp to help him stay alive and be quick in his search for his daughter was a good idea but didn't exactly do much good until after he talked to Sam about murder. One can only imagine the courage it took to ask his brother what he did. Once he got his answer though and got his head on straight, he became to get closer in his search for Tamara. It's incredible what people will do for the ones they love - without thinking about what the other person wants/needs. You'll understand what I mean more after next week's episode. From one father to another...Daniel really showed his colors in this episode. After telling Zoe that he would find a way to get her a more human body if she let him know she was in the cylon and getting no response...his reaction was quite shocking and disturbing. The tests he put her through were so agonizing. My heart was beating so hard as Zoe was faced with the conflict of showing herself or keeping up the facade of the robot in front of him. Lacy disappointed the real Zoe...now is her chance to not repeat those disappointing actions for virtual Zoe. I won't say whether or not she does, but I will say the this is only the first half of the season and next's week's episodes just raises the bar for expectations. Lastly, Amanda is still in a depressive, lost state and the news of Daniel hiring people to kill and steal is not making her predicament any better. Aside from Amanda, this was an incredibly entertaining episode to watch. Viewers will be anticipating each and every moment for what's next as this has set up and open the doors to quite a lot. It really makes you conflicted with who you were originally rooting for and who you are now rooting for. That's good writing, when the viewers are challenged just as much as the characters are. This is one of the best episodes of the season so far.

Introducing: J Bernard Calloway

In 2 months, the Tony Award nominations will be announced, so you can expect quite a bit of Broadway coverage between now and then. Starting with the new hit musical, Memphis. Second lead, J Bernard Calloway has received rave reviews for his role as Delray, which he originated. So today, I present you with my interview with the upcoming star. Check it out:

When did you realize that you wanted theatre to be your career?
After I did a production of the Emporer Jones. I played the title role, at Alabama State where I attained my B.A. in Theatre. That show really solidified my ambitions to pursue acting.

How did you get involved with the musical, Memphis?
I auditioned in N.Y. at Chelsea Studios in the late summer of 2003 for the North Shore Musical Theatre where the east coast premiere was conceived.

Can you tell us your favorite moment of opening night?
The company bows! The audience energy was so magnetic and inviting to me. I felt like I was ready at that moment to take on Broadway.

How would you say your character has evolved from the first time you played him to now?
Well, Delray and Felicia were lovers at first during the early stages of rehearsal at NSMT. But to raise the stakes, Joe DiPietro wanted to invest in making those characters brother and sister. And it worked! Delray has become more of a staple for the black community as an entrepreneur in a time when that really was not accepted as normal. His club is an oasis where black folks could come to dance, eat, network, and take a load off. It didn't hurt to know that the club is located on Beale Street, the major drag in Memphis.

What would you say is a message in the musical that you didn't notice right away but have come to realize and appreciate?
Music is truly a universal language that everyone can relate to. Whether it be negative or positive. It is undeniable.

What is your favorite number in the musical based on the music and what is your favorite number in the musical based on the songwriting?
Based on the music it would be "Underground". Based on the songwriting I have two numbers, "She's My Sister" and "Love Will Stand."

What are your remedies for your voice?
I use to warm up for 30 minutes before a show, but I discovered that I only need 3 minutes as to not do a show before the show. This includes vowel and consonant work and waking up all articulators through vibrations. Also, I always drink plenty of water!

What other musicals are you interested in working on?
This show has opened a lot of doors for me as far as business is concerned. I know that I will ultimately move on from Memphis feeling fulfilled and ready for what is next. I could see myself playing Caolhouse in Ragtime.

What do you do during intermission and what is your favorite part about Stagedoor?
I stretch and eat during intermission. Act 1 takes a lot out of me. The Stagedoor is my chance to say thank you and connect with the fans. That's really important to me that that transition takes place.

What was your experience like shooting The Taking of Pelham 1-2-3?
It was my first movie. 2009 was really good to me. Working with heavy hitters like Denzel Washington, Tony Scott, John Travolta, was the best learning experience any young actor can have. A lot of times I was like a fly on the wall, like a sponge soaking it all in.

What's next for your on screen career?
There are a lot of TV series that's going through the pipe so I have my fingers crossed for the best. Whatever film I do next, I just pray for a great script that I can sink my teeth into.

Get tickets to Memphis the Musical here.

TV Review: Who Do You Think You Are? - Spike Lee

From Executive Producer Lisa Kudrow ("Friends," "The Comeback") -- in conjunction with her production company Is or Isn't Entertainment and the U.K.'s Wall to Wall productions, "Who Do You Think You Are?" is an adaptation of the award-winning hit British television documentary series. The seven-episode program will lead celebrities on a journey of self-discovery as they unearth their family trees that reveal surprising, inspiring and even tragic stories that are often linked to crucial events in American history.

In the seventh and final episode, writer/producer/director, Spike Lee aims to find out more about his mother's side of the family, as he is already quite aware of his father's side. Lee's mother passed away at a young age which led Lee to be raised by his Grandmother who passed away a few years ago. Even though he didn't use his skills to document his Grandmother's journey, he did take a DNA test a few years ago to find out where his family came from. This brings him one step closer to finding out the most about his family roots. So Lee leaves New York and begins his journey in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia to meet with a genealogist who specializes in African American Ancestry. The help that Lee gets along the way leads him to finding his Great Great Grandmother’s obituary! This was the key in moving further in Lee's search as he finds out about other family members that he never knew about. There's an interesting Mars connection between Lee's film, “She’s Gotta Have It” film and his family that shocked even Lee. Even more shocking was being able to trace back not just his family but those who owned his family and visiting the land that Mars owned. The journey for his ancestors has been quite an incredible one. There's lots more to discover in this episode, including one unfortunate twist of fate for Lee's Great Great Great Grandfather. The episode ends with Lee making a visit to his distant cousin...but not just any cousin, a descendant of the slaveowners. To see how this meeting went, you'll have to tune in! This was quite a fascinating and eye opening journey to watch and one that will make you really appreciate what those before you went through. Make sure to tune in because you will learn a thing or two.

Who Do You Think You Are? airs Fridays at 8/7c on NBC.

Syfy Upfront Scoop

Tuesday night, I attended the Syfy Upfront event in New York City where all the stars came out to support & celebrate the success of their shows as well as the new advertising partnerships.

First on the schedule of events was an advanced screening of Caprica's episodes 108 and the mid season finale 109. All I can say right here is that things get heated, people are tested, and things only get deeper from here. For semi-spoilers...I will say that in the first draft of the mid season finale, the dog was killed. Also, Joseph’s story line with Tamara may seem to have wrapped up in the mid season finale, but that is not the case.

So right after the screening, various cast members and 2 executive producers came on stage for a brief Q&A.

An overview of what was discussed during the Caprica Q&A:
As for the timeline for the show, the executive producers explained that about 10 years ahead of where the series is at this point is when the first cylon war will occur and the history of the cylons on Caprica is consistent with the cylons in Battlestar Galactica. But the masterminds behind the show are unsure of the endpoint for series – how close to the BSG timeline they want to get. As far as cylons and technology goes…it was made a point that having respect for technology is not a driving theme for the show but it is one of many that fans do see. After hearing this, it makes me wonder all the more what goes on in the writer’s room…intentions and what is seen beyond those initial intentions. One thing that is intentional is how the viewers connect with the characters. The executive producers explained that they want the relationship between the viewers and characters to be more of a challenge in regards to who to root for. Very intelligent decision this was. It makes every character all the more complex and intriguing. This brings me to my last point, that both Alessandra Torresani and Magda Apanowicz thanked Jane Espenson for such strong female characters.

Then the red carpet began...

Pictured Above: Eddie McClintock (Warehouse 13)

I interviewed just about everyone who arrived that night. Check it out in the videos below!

In Video Above: David Blue & Ming-Na (Stargate Universe), Magda Apanowicz (Caprica), and Joanne Kelly & Eddie McClintock (Warehouse 13)

In Video Above: Colin Ferguson & Salli Richardson-Whitfield (Eureka), Amanda Tapping (Sanctuary), Kris Williams & Amy Bruni (Ghost Hunters), The Miz (WWE's NXT), and Emily Rose (Haven)

The Overall Interview Scoop:
We haven’t seen the last of the chair on Stargate Universe. Gray also takes on more of a leadership role in the upcoming episode. The tensions on the ship and trust issues really come to a boiling point in the upcoming episodes.
Caprica fans get to see Geminon in episode 114, which is one of Magda’s favorite episode of the entire season.
Warehouse 13 gets another new villain that will shock you.
Things will not go the way that you will expect on Eureka. Everything changes, not necessarily just for the better or just for the worst.
The new Syfy series, Haven shoots in Novia Scotia…unlike most Syfy shows which shoot in the Vancouver area. Aside from Emily Rose, Lucas Bryant is attached to the show. The series begins shooting in April.

Next came the Upfront Presentation. Here are the highlights:
As for new programming this fall and next year…Syfy has order 3 new scripted shows, “Haven,” “Being Human” which is the American version of the TV series of the same name, and the dramedy, “Three Inches.” Thursday night’s lineup has been taken over by reality TV with the new shows, “Mary Knows Best,” “Force of Nature,” “Quantam Kitchen,” and “Paranormal Investigators.” “Mary Knows Best,” follows Mary, a psychic with a family living in Staten Island…and after having been shown a preview, it will be quite interesting and entertaining. But Upfront wouldn’t be upfront without mentioning advertisers. Syfy was thrilled to announce that Twizzlers has partnered up with Warehouse 13. As a regular Comic Con visitor, I must say that I am anticipating free Twizzlers at the Syfy booth! To close out the presentation, Tracy Morgan recorded a short message to let Syfy fans know that he is the new executive producer for Scare Tactics.

Afterwords, the celebration party began and the media and advertisers partied with the stars. I had the pleasure of talking to Joanne Kelly (Warehouse 13) and Alessanda Torresani (Caprica).

All in all, it was a very successful and fun night and there is a lot to be very excited about for the upcoming all new episodes of your favorite Syfy shows!

The visuals are astounding under the sea and above ground. After viewing Ponyo, it is no wonder why director, Hayao Miyazaki is an Academy Award winner! This is definitely a must see.

Bonus Features

Meet Ponyo - This feature takes viewers behind the scenes into the making of Ponyo. The executive producers of the English version of Ponyo sit down to discuss collaborating with each other, the importance of casting (as viewers see glimpses of the cast members recording in the studio), how incredible M’s vision is, and the significance of hand drawn animation. A short clip of the original version of Ponyo was shown as well. Unfortunately this feature is quite short and does not go into much detail about anything that is discussed. This is a very broad look into the making of the film. Though it seems more is shared on the Blu-ray so viewers, invest in a Blu-ray player to get the most out of this fascinating tale!

Bonus Features Available on 2 Disc Combo Pack (Blu-ray + DVD) :

* The World of Ghibli - "Enter the Lands" allows fans to immerse themselves in the amazing worlds from each film created by legendary filmmaker, Hayao Miyazaki in this multi-layered interactive experience. "Behind the Studio" is unprecedented access to all the background, inspiration and process behind he making of Ponyo and the inner workings of Studio Ghibli through a series of documentaries. They include all new interviews with Hayao Miyazaki, and composer Joe Hisaishi.

* Storyboard Presentation of Ponyo

Ponyo is available on Blu-ray & DVD now. Also available on DVD:

Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service, and My Neighbor Totoro
