The Power of Six Is Set To Release in Book Stores This August

It has been announced that The Power of Six, the sequel to the #1 New York Times best selling book, I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore, will be available everywhere on August 23rd.

In the beginning they were a group of nine. Nine aliens who left their home planet of Lorien when it fell under attack by the evil Mogadorians, who scattered on Earth and went into hiding, who look like ordinary teenagers, but who have extraordinary skills. The Mogadorians killed Number One, Number Two, and Number Three. They tried to kill Number Four, John Smith ...and failed.

Following a massive battle at the end of I AM NUMBER FOUR that proved that the Mogadorians have found him at last, John joined forces with Number Six. Now the fate of Lorien-and Earth- rests in the hands of these two teens.

Already John and Six have inspired a fellow Lorien-Marina, Number Seven-who has been hiding in Spain. She's been following the news of what's happening in the US, and she's certain it's the sign she's been waiting for.

While you wait, get insight into Sarah's mind by signing up for Pittacus Lore's AuthorTracker to get weekly journal entries leading up to the release of The Power of Six on August 23rd.

"Conscience is the dog that can't bite, but never stops barking." - Proverb

In this week's episode of Wilfred, "Conscience," we get to see a lot more of Jenna's boyfriend, Drew who is played by Chris Klein. Klein brings the comedy like no other actor could and makes Drew just as likable as he is detestable - since we are rooting for Ryan after all. Ryan's competitive nature comes to the surface, especially after finding out that Drew is moving in with Jenna. But when his mischievous plan gets inside his conscience, he goes and blame Wilfred, as per usual, and attempts to clean up the mess that has been created. What I realized in this episode is that while Wilfred does provide Ryan with mischievous ways to resolve certain conflicts, Ryan is smart enough to come up with his own resolutions but is almost always too cowardly to even mention them or act them out. Ryan and Wilfred are both the brains, don't let Ryan fool you, but Wilfred is the one who really puts things into action. That's what drives this show and makes this buddy comedy so hilarious. Wilfred, a dog is guiding Ryan in a way that we have yet to see a dog guide a human being. Talk about a conscience.

"In general, pride is at the bottom of all great mistakes." Steven H. Coogler

When Ryan runs into financial problems in "Pride," which airs on August 4th, Ryan finds himself on a date with a woman that he met through one of Wilfred's unapproved acts to solve his money problems. Noticing how apprehensive Ryan is about using the woman, Wilfred takes matter into his own hands, as per usual and what happens next is definitely worth watching. And even so, my favorite laugh out loud moment of the episode actually has nothing to do with the story line and everything to do with CLUE.

"Anger as soon as fed is dead -- tis starving makes it fat." Emily Dickinson

In "Anger," which airs August 11th, viewers get to see more of Ryan's sister, Kristen, who never fails to get under Ryan's skin. It all comes to a boiling point when Wilfred reveals to Ryan how Ryan and Kristen's previous dog, Sneakers really died. Sometimes Wilfred says things that make as much sense as anything that comes out of Michael Scott's mouth. But watching Wilfred have a paranormal experience takes things to an even more uncomfortable level... so much so that I actually feel bad for Kristen's party being ruined. But in the end, we get a lot of character growth from Kristen and a love we haven't seen up until this point surface between Ryan and Sneakers which makes ever moment worth it. It's hard to say if I enjoyed "Anger" more than "Pride," but because of the growing relationship here between brother and sister, I'd say this one ranks higher than the rest. Great episode. Néstor Carbonell guest stars.

Wilfred airs Thursdays at 10/9c on FX.

Book Review: Think by Lisa Bloom

According to Lisa Bloom, the women and girls of today represent a stark paradox. While American women excel in education at every level, they likewise obsessively focus on celebrity media. While women outperform their male counterparts in employment in urban areas for the first time in history, they simultaneously spend countless hours staring in the mirror contemplating plastic surgery. Lisa Bloom fears that women are in danger of spiraling into a nation of dumbed down, tabloid media obsessed, reality TV addicts. Too often, they outsource matters to "experts" and in doing so neglect to truly think for themselves. The solution:

Lisa Bloom has the solution and it involves one simple word: Think.

In this provocative, entertaining, educational, and thoroughly researched book, Lisa outlines the ways that we as a society, and particularly women, have fallen off the intellectual path, and, very specifically, points to how damaging this has been to us on many levels. Lisa shows us the fallout--but she also provides the solutions for "Reclaiming the Brain God Gave You" and seizing back control of your mind and your life. Think is delivered in a no-nonsense manner that will make you laugh, make you question yourself, make you squirm, but, most important, make you start thinking again.

Think
by Lisa Bloom has re-lit the flames on many candles in my life, some of which representing knowledge and humanitarianism. While being informed about the world may seem a bit intimidating, it is so important to know not only what is going on but what we can do to make it better... and not so much for our own fulfillment either. Why? It's all in the book. Bloom takes on the problem of "Dumb American Syndrome" in Part One, in which she mentions how so many of us have neglected our brutally oppressed third world sisters among other things. While Bloom, an attorney and legal analyst does acknowledge her participation in the extensive media coverage of celebrity cases, daily, she is also sharing international news (at work, on Think.Tv, Twitter, Facebook, etc...) that gets brushed over so much for the celebrity news. She even goes so far as to mention how the Jaycee Dugard coverage rarely shown a light on the millions of missing children and sex slaves around the world. Currently, 10,000 Jaycee Dugards are captive in Sri Lankan brothels alone! As Bloom's mother has said, Gloria Allred, "Don't give to charity, give to change." It is one thing to make sure that your various charitable efforts are actually making a positive change, but it is just as important to get more physically involved in making those changes. Sometimes, money and supplies aren't the start to the answer. Sometimes freedom is. Sometimes knowledge is. Sometimes they are one in the same.

Anyway, Bloom also gives some startling facts that not only made me embarrassed to not already know but encouraged me to do more of my own research to see why these things are, what is being done about it, and what I can do about it. For instance, The U.S Senate and House of Representatives is only 17% women, ranking us #68 in the world for female legislatures. Also, the number of prisoners that are currently serving life without parole for juvenile crimes in the United States is 2,225. The number of prisoners that are currently serving life without parole for juvenile crimes in the rest of the world is 12. The comparison of the number of schools days and school year lengths around the world really put things into perspective. No wonder. The facts about reading got me so fired up that I had to share a few on Twitter. As an avid reader since I first learned how to read, these facts broke my heart. Is anybody else on Goodreads, because if not, I will invite you!

Part Two of Think is just as captivating as it details a number of solutions to reclaiming the time to think, engage, and act. I've always been a curious person but it seems not curious enough and Bloom has helped me to take the next step in gaining knowledge, acting on it, and being consistent with both. I sincerely hope that her words can help you too. As far as reading goes, thank you Bloom for mentioning Read All Day. Talk about a motivation and dedication to reading. I've also recently given to two causes through Global Giving since reading Bloom's book.

Global warming, the unnecessary price of beauty, the media coverage after 9/11, the Iraq War, and the Cambodia War Crime Tribunal are just a number of the many topics that Bloom sheds quite a light on in this book and every single word will propel every reader to research, research, research and not just take what the news gives at face value, if they give the complete story and in an unbiased way to begin with. The research will spark its own inspirations so be sure to soak up knowledge like you used to soak up cartoons every Saturday morning or TGIF every Friday night.

The end of the book includes Recommended Reading, "Un-Recipes," Notes, and an Index. Of Bloom's recommendations, I immediately ordered Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide by Nicholas D. Kristof, Sheryl WuDunn, Nothing To Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea by Barbara Demick, The Help by Kathryn Stockett, and The Girls Who Went Away: The Hidden History of Women Who Surrendered Children for Adoption in the Decades Before Roe v. Wade by Ann Fessler. I have since read all but the last book which I will be starting to read soon, before going through her recommendation list once more.

Think: Straight Talk for Women to Stay Smart in a Dumbed-Down World encourages women to find substance in a nation that represents so much in which it does not take advantage of and promote enough. Bloom shares many of the problems and just as many solutions with a comedic tongue that make for not only a though provoking read, but a disturbingly (harsh and) funny one. Now there have been times every now and then when I have been given that extra boost of motivation to not take for granted the rights that those before me fought for (Hint: Watch Iron Jawed Angels) and to be all that I can be for the world, and Think is one of those boosts. And like prior boosts, it has stood in the front of my mind every day since, so I know that it is so much more. Bloom has not only helped me light my candles but has made those flames impossible to go out. For that, I am forever thankful and will recommend this book to everyone that I know (female or not, feminist or not) and can only hope that it will be passed down in time to keep this message alive and strong in future generations. Think is a must read so be sure to get your copy today!

DVD Review: Doctor Who: Series Six, Part 1

Release Date: July 19, 2011
Rating: NR
Running Time: Approximately 310 minutes

Matt Smith and Karen Gillan make their triumphant return as the Doctor and his companion in an all-new series of Doctor Who! The new series will split in two parts, with DVD/Blu-ray release dates in July and in early November, closely following their premiere runs on BBC America, and then a complete series gift set just in time for the holidays. In Part 1, the Doctor, Amy and Rory find themselves in Sixties America, battling the invasion the world forgot, then journey on the high seas of 1696 aboard a pirate ship, to solve the mystery of the Siren. In a bubble universe at the very edge of reality, the Doctor meets an old friend with a new face, and in a monastery on a remote island in the near future, an industrial accident takes on a terrible human shape. And waiting for them, at the end of all this, is the battle of Demon's Run, and the Doctor's darkest hour. Can even the truth about River Song save the Time Lord's soul? Only two things are certain. Silence will fall. And a good man is going to die.

In Doctor Who: Series Six, Part 1, the first seven episodes of this season are available to watch, along with the "Monster Files" special feature which is definitely worth watching. I am happy to say that I found “The Curse of the Black Spot” to be the only mediocre episode of this collection. While a treat to see Lily Cole (“The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus”), I still did not find the pirate ship setting to be very intriguing. The first two episodes of the season are set in America. The Doctor Who cast and crew jumped the pond and ran as far and as high as with the the American backdrop as they could... and the visuals exceeded my expectations. What a sight to see.

Then there's "The Doctor’s Wife" which was written by Neil Gaima. Need I say more? "The Rebel Flesh/The Almost People" was written by Life On Mars creator, Matthew Graham (Netflix this series if you have yet to watch it) and created two of my favorite episodes since Matt Smith and Karen Gillan joined the series. Even better though is "A Good Man Goes to War." Saying that this episode is brilliant is an understatement. Talk about epic. Not only is the Doctor reunited with so many familiar faces, who basically owe them their lives (and some end up doing just that), but the Doctor is faced with the reality of just how his savior status really appears to so many in the universe. But it doesn't end there! We find out just who River Song really is! Finding out who River is has to be the best cliffhanger in a long time. This mid-series finale has provided for some of the best writing for a mid-season finale.

Not only that but the new show runner has made so many bold moves, it is hard to imagine what's next - but so much easier to anticipate. My anticipation is empty but high if that makes sense, because I do not know what to anticipate but I know that it will blow my mind for the good. There are a number of game changers and this is only the beginning. What a treat this has been to watch! My only disappointment, aside from the third episode is the lack of special features. There are no commentaries, there's no analyses, or look into the future... there's not much to watch. But what there is, you should watch...

Bonus Features:
Monster Files
(10:57 minutes and 13:02 minutes) - This featurette is a brief analysis, history if you will, and deconstruction of The Silence (on Disc One) and The Gangers (on Disc Two). I particularly found the talk of creating the aesthetics for the monsters quite interesting. Watching Iestyn Hampson Jones in costume on set, behind the scenes and out of costume talking about the challenges of working in the costume was eye opening. Seeing and hearing the entire process of creating the look of The Gangers was equally fascinating. Perhaps I may be even more intrigued with this process of pre-production and application ever since Face Off premiered on Syfy. Needless to say, I really enjoyed this feature and I am positive that you will find it just as fascinating.

Appearing in the Disc One Feature:
Director, Toby Haynes
Head Writer, Steven Moffat
Cast Members, Alex Kingston, Karen Gillian, Arthur Darvill, Iestyn Hampson Jones, and Mark Sheppard

Appearing in the Disc Two Feature:
Producer, Marcus Wilson
Director of Episodes 5 & 6, Julian Simpson
Writer of Episodes 5 & 6, Matthew Graham
Head Writer, Steven Moffat
Prosthetics Designer, Neill Gorton
Sculptor, Dave Boneywell
Cast Members, Arthur Darvill, Karen Gillian, Sarah Smart, Marshall Lancaster, Mark Bonnar, Racquel Cassidy, and Leon Vickers

My Kindle

Ever since the Kindle first came on the market, I have been eager to get one of my own. Though the thought of not having a book in my hands felt odd, so I held off on the purchase for quite awhile. On the other hand, I do plan on traveling a bit more in the future and would rather hold a Kindle which weighs 8.5 oz than a suitcase half filled with books - and this is just one of the many benefits of owning a Kindle. So with the news of Borders closing all of its stores by this September, it hit me hard that times are a changing and the Kindle is part of that change. Now while I still dream of having my own enormous library in my dream home one day, I am also thrilled with my decision to finally get a Kindle.

What I love about the Kindle is that it is ready to use right out of the box! There is no (computer) setup and no software to install, it's really as easy at is gets. I bought the Kindle online, while I was signed into my Amazon account online, so my Kindle was already registered in my name when it arrived and had the books that I previously downloaded on my Android Kindle App on my new Kindle. Talk about convenient!

There was no glare at all when I turned it on and walked around the house and outside in different lights just to make sure. However, when I was reading the Kindle during a car ride, I noticed the outline of the window, while leaning against it in the sun and there was an extra sunny spot or two that would have been glares if I couldn't still read the content. The font is crisp and dark and comes in 8 sizes and 3 fonts for books, periodicals, etc.., but I have yet to change the size or the font since I am happy with the default settings. Also, you can change the number of words per line in the book or periodical that you are currently reading which I also haven't done but can see how it can be useful to some. But again, as far as light goes... there is no back light, so it’s as if you really are reading a book and need a light to read in the dark. This is where the back light in the cover comes in, which I have yet to purchase but soon will. When you get your cover for your Kindle, make sure you purchase the cover that includes a back light! I went to a nearby store and saw that the back light and cover were sold separately, so I am unsure if that specific cover is only sold together through Amazon. I have no immediate need for a cover or back light, but if you do, be sure to do some research to get the best out of your buck!

The Kindle does come with a U.S. power adapter and a micro-USB cable in one for charging your Kindle from a computer USB port. The U.S. power adapter supports voltages 100V-240V. Amazon.com says that the Kindle fully charges in approximately 4.5 hours and never gets hot (like many laptops do), which is very convenient and relaxing! The battery life can last up to two months with the wireless off based upon a half-hour of daily reading time or one month if you read for one hour a day. With the wireless always on, it lasts anytime between 10 days - 3 weeks. There really is no need for me to keep the wireless on unless I am buying books, though I do read for more than an hour a day, so it will be interesting to see how long the battery lasts before I must charge it again. So far, I've read "A Stolen Life" by Jaycee Dugard from this past Saturday evening to Sunday afternoon and my battery has gone down less than 1/4. You can use your Kindle while it's charging but it is not a usable reading device while in usb mode. Note that there is free Wi-Fi access at AT&T hot spots (with no AT&T registration/sign-in/password) for Wifi Kindle users like myself. If wi-fi is not available, and I so badly need to buy a book, I can buy online and transfer to the Kindle via usb. I did not purchase the 3G Kindle for various reasons, one of which I already mentioned.

As far as storage goes, the Kindle (which is 4GB) holds up to 3,500 books. There are over 900,000 books available, including 107 of 111 recent New York Times Best Sellers, plus audio books (over 50,000 audio books from Audible.com), periodicals (in which I will note that the Kindle can be manually viewed in portrait or landscape position) and Kindle blogs (though subscribing to multiple blogs may increase battery consumption). Over 610,000 of the 900,000+ books are $9.99 or less which is AMAZING!!! There are over 1.8 million free, out-of-copyright, pre-1923 books available such as Jane Austen's Persuasion and Shakespeare's As You Like It, both of which I have on my Kindle.

If you think being able to read the first chapter of books for free is cool, the purchase of your books automatically back up on Amazon.com and sync to other devices such as your phone’s Kindle App. As far as syncing goes, the page numbers on the Kindle correspond to print editions so every book is on one accord with every Kindle edition of the book. I am still trying to figure out though how to see the page number on the Kindle.

Notes you have written in books are saved as well as the book itself (in archive and on Amazon) if you ever delete a book and want to put it back on your Kindle, lose your Kindle, etc... Amazon does not make copies of periodicals older than 7 issues, audible files, and mp3s, so make sure to backup your own copies.

The Home screen shows book titles to the left and authors to the right. The dotted lines below each title indicate the length of the book, while bold dots indicate your reading progress. When reading, if you would like to see the header (Book Title & Time) or your battery life status, simply hit the menu button and then menu again to exit. Your reading progress can also be seen in a bar at the bottom of the screen which is very useful. At the end of the book, you can rate & review, and get recommended reading suggestions.

The Kindle goes to sleep aka screen saver mode after 10 minutes of inactivity. The screen saver and the bottom of the Home face have special Amazon offers. Special offers are not within books, so you do not have to worry about ads. All available special offers and sponsored screen savers are saved to the Kindle and are not just for ebooks, which is very handy. On the first day of using my Kindle, there were four offers saved for me with expirations on three of them. On the fourth day, there were less than a handful more. Go to the Home Menu and navigate down to "view special offers" to see yours and take advantage of these deals.

One of my favorite tools on the Kindle is being able to organize my Kindle library into collections, or categories, to easily access any book I am looking for. For some reason, I've never had the desire to create lists on Goodreads but I am ecstatic about making lists on my Kindle. Go into your Home Menu to create a collection and then click that collection once it is made to add multiple books at the same time, or go to the right of a book title for the option to add it to your collection. Note that deleting a collection will never delete the items in a collection.

A great shortcut worth mentioning is that the first row of letters also represents numbers 1-9 and 0 if you need numbers and would rather not go through the “Sym” key. Press Alt and the letter to create the number. Also, you can search the Kindle store (search an author by typing "@author author's name"), dictionary, google, web, and your items whenever you need to, provided there is wi-fi in the area that you can tap into.

I also absolutely love the dictionary look up right on the Kindle, so that I never, ever, ever have to wonder what another word means while in the middle of reading! It’s so easy to do, I just move my 5 way controller to the left of whatever word I am confused about and the definition appears at the top of the page. I also very much appreciate the ability to keep notes and highlight passages. I have yet to write any notes yet, but I write in half of my books, so this tool will come in handy quite a bit! I've already highlighted one quote in Dugard's memoir.

Bonuses:
- You can transfer MP3 files to the Kindle to play as background music while you read by transferring MP3 files (in the order that you want to listen to them) to the Kindle music folder via USB by connecting the Kindle to your computer. Play the music by going to the “Experimental” option in the Home Menu. To stop playing music, press Alt and space bar, to go to the next song press Alt and F. While there is no limit to music you can add, keep in mind that it does take up more space. I've added Francesca Battistelli's "Hundred More Years" album to listen to while I read "Reshaping It All" by Candace Cameron Bure and it has been a blast. Also in the “Experimental” option is a web browser.

- You can share passages with built-in Twitter and Facebook integration. Once you have finished a book, you will have the option to share your status, otherwise, you can share passages by pressing the Alt and Enter keys. Once I am comfortable with the notes/highlights (in “My Clippings" collection) features, I may integrate Twitter and Facebook. I say may because I already have integrated Goodreads to Facebook & Twitter and am unsure of the need to have both integrated. The only con about making notes & highlights is that your book notes & highlights are public to your Kindle friends and their notes are public to you by default. If you don't want your passages included, you can turn that off but then your annotations will not be backed up on Amazon and other devices. Talk about a catch twenty two. I just won't be adding any Kindle friends unless I am constantly trading books with them and don't mind their notes/highlights. Just be mindful of who you are adding as your Kindle friends.

- If you want the audio book experience without paying the audio book price, you can use the "Text to Speech" tool on whatever books allow for this use. Find this option after pressing the aA button. You can listen to a male or female, adjust the speed, pause (space bar), or turn it off (shift key and symbol key) anytime. I have yet to use this feature but I am very excited to as time goes on.

- As mentioned earlier, you can share your favorite book with any friend who has a Kindle or uses one of the Kindle applications on supported devices. To lend books, go to the Manage Your Kindle page on Amazon.

All in all, I am very pleased with the Kindle! I do have to say though, I felt like quite a fool touching the screen, automatically assuming that it was a touch screen. With so much use of touch screens in the past few years, I went straight for the screen. I am thrilled to say that the Kindle does not have a touch screen! Well, that's all for now. Feel free to add me on Goodreads and happy reading!

DVD Review: White Collar The Complete Second Season

Release Date: June 7, 2011
Rating: NR
Running Time: 694 minutes

Compelling characters and intricate plot twists make this riveting crime drama one of television's slickest, sexiest shows! Matt Bomer returns as sophisticated conman Neal Caffrey, who teams up with FBI Agent Peter Burke (Tim Dekay) to investigate an intriguing array of crimes ranging from extortion to murder. Now, reeling from the death of his girlfriend, Neal struggles to unlock the secret behind a mysterious music box and find Kate's killer, even as his partnership with Peter begins to crumble.

White Collar
Season Two begins right where the unbelievable season one finale left off and really takes its time in solving the mystery at hand while at the same time continues to mold of the character of Neal Caffrey so smoothly. There's so much for the long time viewer to appreciate and anticipate exploring while a newcomer can also enjoy the show on a case by case basis while still following along to the long term story arcs fairly easily. This is a smart show but it will not go over your head and that is a formula that is not as easy as one would think to pull off. The comedy is just as smart but it works. At this point, the characters are so well formed due to the combination of the writing and comfort ability with the actors, that everything seems so natural... so you might miss a joke if you're not used to the fast pace of the witty dialogue. The writing is truly incredible on this show and will keep you on your feet trying to figure out what Neal, Peter, and even Mozzie will do next and why. Also, it wouldn't be fair not to point out the fascinating use of New York, the stunning and sophisticated wardrobe, and the wonderful guest stars throughout the season. White Collar is engaging in every sense of the word and in every aspect of the show. Also, the chemistry amongst the cast has grown and it shows. This is truly a cast that is like "family" for sure and that chemistry makes their characters all the more genuine and easy to love. Season Two of White Collar is just as entertaining as the first, so it would be a shame not to have your own copy of season two sitting next to your copy of the first.

Bonus Features:
Deleted Scenes
(8:23 minutes) - The deleted scenes are as follows: one deleted scene from 201, one scene from 202, two scenes from 203, one scene from 207, one scene from 213, and one scene from 216. The writing and acting is so incredibly good on this show, that I can only imagine that all of these scenes were cut only because of time. If you love White Collar as much as I do, I do not have to tell you to watch the deleted scenes for just a bit more White Collar! The bits of comedy in certain scenes that did not make it into the final episodes are especially disappointing, but it's great to see that the footage made it to DVD.

Gag Reel (5:07 minutes) - While this gag reel does show a few moments where lines and props are not handled as they were intended, that is not what makes this gag reel so entertaining. I have never seen a gag reel that shows just how genuine the relationships are amongst the cast. This is clearly one of the most fun and freeing cast on television today. When they say that the cast is "like family," the cast of White Collar means it and this gag reel proves it. Seeing the positive vibes on set makes me smile more than any episode of the show could. It makes me appreciate all those involved in the show even more because I cans see that they are truly enjoying every single moment.

White Collar Roasts Burn Notice (5:36 minutes) - Jeff Eastin and the Creator & Executive Producer of Burn Notice, Matt Nix along with others from both writer's rooms compare their shows in discussing blowing things vs. good plots, Caffrey vs. Westen, the women of each series, and the use of voiceover. This is a fun feature, especially if you watch both shows. I can't seem to get into Burn Notice, but I still found this feature to provide for a fun rivalry laugh.

Appearing in This Feature:
Story Editors, Joe Henderson and Alexandra McNally
Writer's Assistants, Eddie Serrano and Christopher Tergliafera
Writers, Jim Campolongo, and Matt Negrete

Burn Notice Roasts White Collar (6:03 minutes) - Jeff Eastin and the Creator & Executive Producer of Burn Notice, Matt Nix along with others from both writer's rooms compare their shows in discussing Westen vs. Caffrey, Sam vs. Mozzie, Fiona vs. Elizabeth, and all kidding aside, give praises to each other in the end. Since I watch White Collar, I could appreciate the kidding more than the previous roast, so I really enjoyed it.

Appearing in This Feature:
Executive Story Editor, Rashad Raisani, Michael Horowitz, Lisa Joy
Writer's Assistant, Ryan Johnson
Producer, Ben Watkins

Slick Willie (5:14 minutes) - The cast answers the question "Who the hell is Mozzie?" in a fun featurette that features moments from the series as well as behind the scenes shots of the cast. This is a fun and brief character analysis that Matt Bomer dwells into best and the others playfully add onto. Tiffani Thiessen, Marsha Thomason, Tim DeKay, Gloria Votsis, Sharif Atkins, Jeff Eastin, and Willie Garson also appear in this feature.

So Here's the Deal: Anatomy of an Episode (12:47 minutes) - Jeff Eastin shares with the viewers how the concepts for each episode come together and others share the show's shooting pattern and challenges, while footage of the writers in the writer's room (in Burbank, CA) and the crew on set/location is shown. Eastin, the crew, and the editors of this featurette give a very detailed look into the process of pre-production and production for the show. One of my favorite portions of the feature is what is dedicated to Director of Photography, Russell Lee Fine. As mentioned, he has an amazing eye and his aesthetics make this show all the more spectacular and worth watching. This series truly would not be the same without Fine. While I'd say the first four minutes are my favorite (since I'm more interested in the writing phase), the entire process is truly a fun challenge to take on each week for months at a time, and this feature definitely did it justice in showing what it takes to create a hit series.

Appearing in this Feature:
Co-executive Producer, Jeff King
Director, John Kretchmer
Location Assistant, Ryan Coleman
Production Assistant, Juan Mazzara
Production Sound Mixer, Mathew Price
Director of Photography, Russell Lee Fine
Staff Writer, Channing Powell
Production Desiger, Stephen Beatrice
Cast Members, Willie Garson, Matt Bomer, Tiffani Thiessen, Tim DeKay, Sharif Atkins

Commentary - The commentary for "Point Blank" which is a rather dull commentary, was conducted by Jeff Eastin, Matt Bomer, and Tim Dekay. The commentary for "Forgng Bonds" was conducted by Jeff Eastin, Matt Bomer, Tim Dekay, Willie Garson, & Tiffani Thiessen, who joins in 14 minutes into the commentary. With a female in the mix, changing up the dynamic, there are more laughs and more details. I enjoyed this commentary much more. Saving the best for last, the commentary for "Under the Radar" was conducted by Jeff Eastin, Matt Bomer, Tim Dekay, Willie Garson, & Tiffani Thiessen. Eastin was the only person at the time to have seen this episode in full, so this was an especially fun commentary to follow along to, definitely my favorite of the three.

DVD Review - Brad Meltzer's Decoded: The Complete Season One

Release Date: May 31, 2011
Rating: Not Rated
Running Time: 7 hours 50 minutes

What if everything you learned in history books were only half true? In Brad Meltzer’s Decoded: Season One, best-selling author and history buff Meltzer separates fact from fiction as he investigates the hidden history and coded truths behind everything from the Statue of Liberty to the dollar bill to the assassination of President Lincoln. Mysteries explored in BRAD MELTZER’S DECODED: THE COMPLETE SEASON ONE include: the real story behind the White House cornerstone, which has been missing for two centuries; the location of the lost Confederate treasury; the hidden messages of the Statue of Liberty; and whether Lady Liberty is anti-religion.

Brad Meltzer's Decoded is an intriguing watch for many reasons, whether you are a history buff or not. Meltzer and his team travel all over to uncover the answers to history's most "provocative" questions, secrets. The team takes everything into account and each give their own accounts throughout each mystery that has yet to be resolved (which is great since their opinions could not be any more different). Some cases are left open ended more or less while others are resolved. That is part of the fun (and frustration) in watching each of these episodes, because you never know what the team will gather in conclusion. The experts that they come across for more information is also quite an interesting journey within itself. Some are more than open about sharing their knowledge while others are clearing holding back some of their knowledge or are unsure even themselves of what they know.

Meltzer and his team take on the White House, Lincoln's assassination, and the President's Inner Circle amongst other things. And sometimes what they are after leads them to discovering something else, which is always exciting. The episodes are fast paced and if you miss a portion, you may miss some valuable information. On the other hand, what is really the most fascinating aspect of the series is that their research will encourage the viewers to do their own research and soak up as much knowledge as they can about their country. The team take quite a few risks in their research (and you'll figure out what I mean by that when you watch) and the risk taking part makes getting knowledge all the more fun, no? So really, no matter your reasoning for watching this series, you will be encouraged to not only think for yourself but back up your reasonings with an abundant amount of research, which can be quite fun even though it may not sound like it. As far as series getting to the truth, this series does not beat around the bush, is not general or biased in its findings which is refreshing and therefore is definitely worth the watch. Decoded is entertaining, educational, and thought provoking and that is something worth watching. So make sure to get your copy today.

TV Review: Covert Affairs "Half a World Away"

In tonight's episode of Covert Affairs, viewers will finally find out how Auggie lost his sight... and also what he intends to do about the man behind his injury who is surprisingly still alive today. This episode goes back and forth between present day Turkey at the Istanbul Jazz Festival as well as Baltimore and 2007 Iraq. Rebecca Mader (Lost, No Ordinary Family) guest stars in tonight's episode (and has great chemistry with Gorham) as a flight attendant who becomes more than acquaintances with Auggie and also ends up aiding him in his mission. This mission, like others is exhilarating but for reasons closer to home. We want to see Auggie at peace with his enemy but the way that he goes about getting that peace and how he reels Annie in, only to be frustrated that she helped (though, it is Annie, he must have known she was going to help more than he intended) is quite a sight to see. Also, there's clearly a lot of character development. It's fun to see that Auggie was always a flirt. Some things never change. But I particularly found Auggie's reasoning for his new found love for jazz especially moving. If you remember season one's Auggie centric episode, that was more fast paced than what you'll see tonight but the pace tonight is just right for what will be revealed and set out. Chris Gorham shines in tonight's episode as does the writing and a beautiful new shooting location (since Covert Affairs has the opportunity to branch out more this season). "Half a World Away," which is the perfect title for this episode in so many ways, is a must see episode and is perhaps one of the most hard hitting of the season - and the season isn't over yet! So be sure to watch tonight!

DVD Review: Covert Affairs The Complete First Season

Release Date: May 17, 2011
Rating: NR
Running Time: Approximately 2 hours, 9 minutes

Meet Annie Walker (Piper Perabo): smart, stunning and the CIA's newest field operative in one of their most secretive branches. Suddenly summoned by headquarters for active duty one month before training is over, she's quickly thrown into a shadowy world full of cons, killers and international crime rings. What she doesn't know is there's something-or someone-from her past that her bosses want badly enough to put her in harm's way. She just has to survive long enough to find out why. From the producer of the Bourne films comes the action-packed first season of the smash-hit espionage series, with co-stars Christopher Gorham and Sendhil Ramamurthy, and guest stars Peter Gallagher, Eriq La Salle, Lauren Holly, Liane Balaban, and Anna Chlumsky. Critics are praising it as "the best new drama of the season."

Covert Affairs
is my second favorite series on USA (the first being White Collar) ever. Everything that I mentioned in the Pilot review (read here) holds up for the series. The writing is truly spectacular, the guest stars jump right in and connect with their characters just as immediately as the main cast members do (who have great chemistry by the way), and the locations and sets are stunning! The amount of detail that the crew have put into the CIA set as well as Gorham's character who is blind is incredible. While I would not say that the series is compelling or life changing, the series does showcase quite a few life challenges. There is also a great balance of case by case story lines and long term story arcs where character development may, on first glance seem hard to keep up with but is actually not. The writers know exactly what they are doing and are doing it just right. The balance between the drama, action, and the comedy (Auggie's one liners and Joan's smug smiles after her hazing responses for example) is superb. Covert Affairs is easily one of the most entertaining and engaging spy dramas on television today. So make sure to get season one on DVD now and catch up on Season 2 which is currently on the air now.

Bonus Features:
Deleted Scenes
(17:93 minutes) - There are approximately ten deleted scenes for "Walter's Walk," and one scene each for "South Bound Suarez," and "No Quarter" on Disc One. Disc two holds about seven deleted scenes for "Houses Of the Holy," about five scenes for "What Is And What Should Never Be," while disc three holds seven deleted scenes for "Fool In The Rain." All of the scenes for the latter episode I found intriguing and or entertaining for various reasons. Although this was one of my favorite episodes of the season, so I may be biased. There are also two scenes that I really enjoyed in "Houses Of the Holy," one in which Annie plants a bug and one with a woman in the interrogation room. Gorham shines in the first deleted scene in "What Is And What Should Never Be." His one liners should never be cut! Scenes where Annie says "Klutz" should always be cut in my opinion. Hopefully we do not have to hear Annie use that excuse too much in season two around her sister. She needs to come up with more clever cover ups. The rest of the deleted scenes are mediocre or where put into the episodes in some way, shape, or form, so there's not a whole lot to be missed here.

Gag Reel (2:22 minutes) - In watching the gag reel, viewers will get to see just how much fun Piper Perabo was to have on set. What a goofball! Perabo is not just a klutz because of her character ad that's all I'll say about that. Viewers also get to see moments when Perabo, Anne Dudek, and Sendhil Ramamurthy all have issues with their lines. It's quite funny! Too bad this reel wasn't longer.

Welcome to the Farm (13:40 minutes) - This feature is Covert Affairs 101 more or less. Piper Perabo described it best when she said, "You kind of see the balance between work and life in our show." Aside from a brief description of the show, the writers and producers talk about casting the main characters while the cast talks about the incredible writing which gives a nice, equal balance to the feature... and they top it off with talk of season two, which is brief and non-spoilery other than taking the next season to more locations. This is not a must see feature for viewers who have seen the entire first season, but it is a great introduction to the series for anyone who has yet to see the series.

Also Appearing in This Feature:
Christopher Gorham, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Kari Matchett, Peter Gallagher
Co-creators/co-writers, Chris Ord and Matt Corman
Executive producer, Doug Liman, David Bartis
Executive producer/co-writer, James D. Parriott

Blind Insight (4:02 minutes) - Christopher Gorham, Piper Perabo, and Co-creator/co-writer, Chris Ord appear in this feature in which Gorham discusses his research as a CIA operative and as a blind man. He received an unforgettable amount of time receiving guidance from the Canadian National Institute for the Blind though because this feature is so short, there really is not a significant amount of time to get into the nitty gritty. Still, this is a great peak into Gorham's current role.

Set Tour (13:51 minutes) - Sendhil Ramamurthy and co-creator/co-writer, Matt Corman start the set tour in the "bullpen" and end up giving the best set tour that I have seen for any TV show on DVD. The two guys do not simply walk through the rooms quickly with the wave of a hand, they spend time in each room and talk about what's in the room, filming in the room, and the comparison with the real life CIA set up. The burn bag is quite fun to learn about, as is the data room and Auggie's workspace among other things/places. Corman and Ramamurthy give an abundant amount of insight into the CIA life at the office and how that is portrayed on the show. The to make quite a few jokes throughout the tour which makes it all the more fun to watch. I'd say that this is one of my favorite features on the DVD.

Celebrate the ADA (40 seconds) - Christopher Gorham, who plays a CIA operative who happens to be blind on Covert Affairs, stars in a PSA for the America's Disabilities Act and directs viewers to Charctersunite.com to join the fight against discrimination. The bonus features would not be the same without a PSA given how incredibly connected Auggie's character is to the creators of the show.

Commentary - Commentary for the "Pilot" is conducted by Piper Perabo, Christopher Gorham, Executive Producer, Doug Liman, and Creators/Writers, Matt Corman and Chris Ord. This group of cast and crew members is such a perfect group for commentary! The amount of behind the scenes information that is shared is never ending. The talent discussed the stunts, their CIA access and research on the blind, a chewing on ice cube acting trick, a great character analysis of Joan is given, and the the jokester on set is revealed among other things. This was an incredibly informative and equally entertaining commentary that Covert Affairs fans should not miss! Commentary for the "Communication Breakdown" is conducted by Piper Perabo, Christopher Gorham, Executive Producers, Doug Liman and Dave Bartis, and Creators/Writers, Matt Corman and Chris Ord. Gorham briefly answers Facbook questions which is perhaps my favorite aspect of this commentary, aside from the many laughs in the latter portion of the commentary. Commentary for the "When the Levee Breaks" is conducted by Piper Perabo, Christopher Gorham, Executive Producer, Bartis, and Creators/Writers, Matt Corman and Chris Ord. This commentary is not nearly as entertaining as the commentary for the Pilot episode but is still fun to watch, just hear comments like, "No Buddhist monks were harmed." In the end, if there's one commentary that you must watch, it is the Pilot.

Emma Watson Exhibit Supporting CAMFED

Renowned artist, Mark Demsteader (of Manchester) has created a collection of portraits of Emma Watson (one of his biggest fans) which can be seen at the Panter & Hall Gallery on Bury Street in London. The exhibit holds 34 portraits of Emma in different mediums – charcoal and gouache drawings, ink paintings and oils.

Mark said of the “EMMA” collection, “It has been a wonderful privilege to work with Emma on these images. The idea behind them is to make a collection to celebrate Emma’s birthday. I wanted to capture a moment in time, and by making each piece a quick snapshot, I hope to capture Emma as she reaches 21. In some way I hope these works celebrate Emma in what she has achieved already, and in all the many possibilities to come.”

Emma and Mark agreed that 10% of all sale proceeds and one of the pieces will be donated to Emma’s charity of choice, CAMFED International, a charity which supports the education of girls and economic empowerment of young women in Africa.

Of the agreement, Emma said, “I am really excited that Mark said he would support CAMFED International with this exhibition, too. They are a great charity doing an amazing job educating girls in Africa.”

For more information on the EMMA Exhibit, visit Panter & Hall and be sure to also visit CAMFED International.

TV Review: Zen on PBS

What does an honest cop do when his bosses are on the side of the lawbreakers? Outwitting prosecutors, politicians, mobsters and run-of-the-mill kidnappers and killers, Detective Aurelio Zen brings justice to modern-day Italy, whether the authorities want it or not, on Zen, a trio of spellbinding cases based on the bestselling novels of by British crime writer Michael Dibdin, airing on Masterpiece July 17-31, 2011.

Rufus Sewell (Middlemarch) stars as Zen, a Roman police detective hailing from Venice, where "Zen" is a local shortening of the name Zeno. Separated from his wife and living with his mother, he is too frazzled by his job to think about romance. That is, until he meets Tania Moretti (Caterina Murino), his chief's new secretary.

Having been quite intrigued with the promo footage for the detective mini-series, Zen, I decided to take up the offer to view the three episodes that will be airing later this month in advanced. As a viewer who only turns to PBS now for a documentary or holiday special every now and then and as a viewer who hasn't regularly tuned in since my childhood days... I was a bit taken aback by the amount of murder in the series. There's quite a bit of unnecessary murder (but, really, aren't most to all unnecessary?) and quite a slow paced story here. Although I can't figure out if the pace seems even slower because of the dull (delivery of the) dialogue, dull sky above in most scenes (not a dull location though, since it is Rome), or something else that I am missing but there is something about this series that is just too dull to keep my interest. In an attempt to be dark, it has resulted in being a bit sleepy. This mystery and has lots of twists and corruption but very little action outside of the murders, so there's not a whole lot of exhilaration here. This is one mediocre ride that has an ending worth watching, if you can make it to the end. Believe it or not, what kept me coming back was the music. I found myself emotionally connecting more to the music than anything else. It was also quite fun to see how Zen handled being handled. Zen is based on the bestselling thrillers by Michael Dibdin and as a reader who does not consider murder-mystery her genre of choice... I may have to pick up the first book to see what it is that I am missing so much from the television adaptation.

Alan Cumming hosts this "Masterpiece Mystery," Zen Sundays, July 17-31, 2011 at 9pm on PBS.

DVD Review: Arthur

Release Date: July 15, 2011
Rating: PG-13
Running Time: 110 minutes

Loveable billionaire Arthur Bach, an irresponsible charmer who has always relied on two things to get by: his limitless fortune and the good sense of his lifelong nanny and best friend Hobson, to keep him out of trouble. Kind-hearted, fun-loving, and utterly without purpose, Arthur spends every day in the heedless pursuit of amusement. But when his unpredictable public image threatens the staid reputation of the family foundation, Bach Worldwide, he is given an ultimatum: marry the beautiful but decidedly unlovable Susan Johnson, an ambitious corporate exec who can keep him in line, or say goodbye to his billion-dollar inheritance and the only way of life he knows. It's a deal Arthur would be inclined to take...if he hadn't just fallen for Naomi, a New York City tour guide who shares his idealism and spontaneity.

Having never seen the original 1981 comedy from which this movie is based on, I went in watching this predictable remake with no expectations other than knowing that I would laugh a number of times with Russell Brand in the lead. In fact, as such a fan of Russell Brand that I am, I knew that I would enjoy the film no matter how the critics compared it to the original film. And I did! For a laugh out loud comedy about an irresponsible heir who will lose his fortune if he does not marry to keep the family's business on the right path, this film had a lot of heart. Sure, we get to see Arthur form a relationship with a young woman, Naomi Quinn (played by Greta Gerwig who is so incredibly charming) but we also create an even stronger love and appreciation for the relationship between Arthur and Hobson (played by Helen Mirren). It's this relationship that helps Arthur become not only the responsible man that everyone knows he can be but the loving man with good morals that she saw in Arthur's relationship with Naomi.

Now while the story was entertaining and emotionally engaging enough to keep me enthralled, it seemed like the first half of the film was all laughs and then there was a shift in tone where things became much more serious. So the balance of comedy and drama and romance could have been handled better. Also, while Jennifer Garner is always a delight to see, it was hard to take her character seriously, going from ex-girlfriend to respected business woman to crazy (drunk at one point) gold digger - the latter two in such a short amount of time. For a film that is almost 2 hours long, we also do not get to see why Arthur and Garner's character are not meant to be. Arthur gives us a list of reasons why and we just have to take that and accept it for what it is, without Arthur even attempting to form at least a positive and friendly relationship with her. Needless to say, this is one of my least favorite roles of Garner's. Her character and placement in Arthur's life is just not fleshed out enough.

Also, I had the feeling that some scenes did not flow as naturally as they would have, had this not been a remake. But Mirren held it all together and really was the heart of the film... which I'm not sure is a good thing since maybe the lead, Brand is supposed to be. Having said all of that, I still enjoyed the film for what it was. Accepting the film for what it turned out to be with no comparisons, this was a simple tale of young man growing into his manhood and choosing love over money. Is it perfect? No. But it is entertaining at a basic level and that is something that I don't mind every now and then. Also, Evander Holyfield and Dylan's Candy Bar CEO, Dylan Lauren both make cameos.

Bonus Features:
* Arthur Unsupervised

* Addition Scenes
* Gag Reel

Arthur is available on Blu-Ray Combo Pack, DVD, On Demand, and for Download July 15, 2011.

TV Review: Wilfred 1.04 "Acceptance" & 1.05 "Respect"

Photo Credit: Michael Becker / FX

"Happiness can exist only in acceptance." - George Orwell

In "Acceptance," which airs tonight, Ryan's attempt to reconcile with his sister gives Wilfred a jealous flare... or so Ryan thinks, until he realizes what is happening to Wilfred at doggy day camp while he is with his sister. Ed Helms (The Office) guest stars as what I'd like to describe as Andy Bernard's evil brother times four... and it works. My favorite moment of the episode has to be when Ryan plays hero and pulls out the big one to save Wilfred from the perverted environment that he is in (ironically). Though this was the only laugh out loud moment for me in this episode. But while tonight's episode may not deliver the same amount of comedy as the first three episodes did, that one moment in which I highlighted is worth watching the entire episode. Once Ryan accepts the truth in what Wilfred is trying to show him, only then can he become the greatest friend to Wilfred that he can be. Watching that process was odd but worth it.

"Seek respect mainly from thyself, for it comes first from within." - Steven H. Coogler

Then there's "Respect," which airs next week, in which Ryan and Wilfred volunteer at a hospice. It delivers the opposite of respect one way thanks to Wilfred's hilarious one liners that are so blunt it reminds me of another FX show, Archer which is just as hilarious. At the same time, Wilfred unintentionally earns the respect of the hospice staff after helping out the patients with his incredible sixth sense/animal talent. But then, Wilfred becomes quite ruthless with this new recognition. Why? Well, Ryan did not have the right intentions in volunteering to begin with and Wilfred, as usual brings out Ryan's weaknesses through an unbelievable act. Wilfred and Ryan's good vs. evil act on the rooftop during a storm is pretty epic, especially since it looks like Elijah Wood could barely get through the scene without laughing. This was a great episode! While there was plenty to laugh at, I can definitely watch this episode over and over again and get something different out of it... because Wilfred is actually really deep! Who knew a dog could have so much depth? "Respect" was wildly entertaining and thought provoking and should be seen by every FX fan out there! Plus, there's a reference to The Wire and Rashida Jones (The Office, Parks & Recreation) guest stars!

Wilfred airs Thursdays at 10/9c on FX.

Album Review: McCartney and McCartney II Reissue

Exactly one month ago, the Paul McCartney Archive Collection grew with the release of the remastered albums, McCartney and McCartney II with bonus audio content!

I absolutely love the booklets for McCartney and McCartney II, full of lyrics (though not including the bonus tracks) and photos of both Paul & Linda McCartney. Of all of the instrumentals on McCartney, I could listen to "Singalong" endlessly and be completely satisfied. It's also great to hear not only the re-mastered version of "Maybe I'm Amazed" but a live 1979 recording of the hit! The live version of "Every Night" is also a pretty great listen. I haven't had the opportunity to see McCartney live, so listening to this live version along with watching the Good Evening NYC DVD (read my review of that here) will suffice. The arrangement of the rare tracks on the second disc is perfect but doesn't compare to the depth of the songs on McCartney II. Jumping 10 years ahead to 1980, McCartney II is a much more upbeat and spunky or experimental collection compared to McCartney... and I like it a lot! Why do I love the music of "Temporary Secretary" so much? There are also two tracks on the bonus disc that run at just over 10 minutes long... and every minute is worth listening to. And can there be an Across the Universe 2 just so I can hear the cast sing their own version of "Waterfalls" and "One Of These Days?" Surprisingly, "Summer's Day Song" sounded more like a "Winter's Night Song" because I was about to fall asleep it was so soothing. And will you judge me if I play "Bogey Music" everyday for the rest of my life? By the way, "Bogey Wobble" is fire! Love it! Anyway, it is really hard to compare the two albums because they are on opposite sides of the spectrum. In the end though, both albums are great listens for their own reasons and sound even better re-mastered.

It is quite an experience going back and listening to McCartney's solo work after listening to his work with The Beatles for so long. I only began listening to McCartney's solo work in the past few years, so many of the songs on these two albums were new to me. There's so much to appreciate about McCartney's solo artistry because often times, his complexity is wrapped in such simplicity... and that could take forever to write about, so I'll leave that for you to digest on your own time. There's a lot to reflect on and appreciate here if you take the time to do so, so there is no doubt that McCartney and McCartney II are must haves for any McCartney fan.

Heralded as one of the most beloved solo debuts of all time, McCartney, the smash # 1 album, originally released April of 1970, yielded the timeless tracks “Every Night” and “Junk” along with the immortal classic “Maybe I’m Amazed.” McCartney II originally issued in May of 1980 was McCartney’s return to solo work after nine years touring and having released several massively successful albums with Wings. Reaching #1 in the UK, and #3 in the U.S., the album produced enduring classics such as “Coming Up,” “Waterfalls,” & “Temporary Secretary.”

McCartney is available as a 2-disc (2 CD) Special Edition featuring the original remastered album plus seven bonus audio tracks including the previously unreleased outtakes “Suicide” and “Don’t Cry Baby” plus a rare live 1979 recording of “Maybe I’m Amazed”. For collectors, the reissue is also available as a 3 disc (2 CD, 1 DVD) Deluxe Edition which includes an exclusive bonus DVD featuring rare and previously unseen footage, a 128-page hard bound book containing exclusive and unpublished photos by Paul and Linda McCartney, original album artwork, downloadable hi-res audio versions of the remastered album and bonus audio tracks, an illustrated history of the making of the album, and expanded track by track information for the two audio discs as well as detailed historical information on the film content.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides On DVD & Blu-Ray This Fall

Release Date: October 18, 2011
Rating: PG-13
Running Time: 136 minutes

From Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer comes all the fun, epic adventure and humor that ignited the original. Johnny Depp returns as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. A tale of truth, betrayal, youth, demise — and mermaids! When Jack crosses paths with a woman from his past (Penélope Cruz), he’s not sure if it’s love or if she’s a ruthless con artist using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. Forced aboard the ship of the most feared pirate ever, Jack doesn’t know who to fear more —Blackbeard (Ian McShane) or the woman from his past. Directed by Rob Marshall, it’s filled with eye-popping battle scenes, mystery and all-out wit.
