In today’s edition of The Vine, a spin off of the Sunday Branch feature, my notes refer to John 13 (Amplified Version).

Verse 4 Notes:
Jesus got up from supper (a place of rest), took of his garments (foreshadowing him being naked on the cross), and fastened (symbolism for getting ready to do God’s work).

Verse 5 Notes:
Jesus was ready to clean. He was pouring out His blood to cleanse us from sin. How ready are you to do the work you were set out to do as a daughter/son of God?

Verse 7 Notes:
We are righteous because of what He did. Peter understood this (and understood so much more eventually. Peter’s arc is quite something. Little teacher’s pet. Ha!).

Verse 18 Notes:
At this time, to sit in someone’s home and break bread with them only to turn on them was the ultimate betrayal.

Verse 21 Notes:
He was troubled in His spirit because He loved Judas and knew what was going to happen to him. Jesus knew who was going to betray him, yet no condemnation.

Judas was a symbol of sinful nature, countless opportunities to come to God and repent, and men who don’t repent. Also. NO CONDEMNATION.

Verse 27 Notes:
Before, it was just a tugging but now the sin in Judas’s heart is at a point of no return.

Verse 34 Notes:
New Commandment: Love

Love one another as Jesus loves us (He protects us, feeds us, corrects us, serves us, teaches us, spends time with us, speaks gently to us, etc…)

Love.

Which brings me to 1 Corinthians 13 which you can listen to below.

Tomorrow…John 14.
