My Summer ’15 TV Watch List

Returning Dramas
Orange Is the New Black (Netflix, Friday, June 12)
Under the Dome (CBS, Thursday, June 25 9pm)
Graceland (USA, Thursday, June 25 10pm)
Falling Skies The Final Season (TNT, Sunday, June 28 10pm)
Extant (CBS, Wednesday, July 1 10pm)
The Strain (FX, Sunday July 12 10pm)
Chasing Life (ABC Family, Monday, August 17 9pm)
Switched at Birth (ABC Family, Monday, August 24 8pm)

I am SUPER excited about Graceland omg I LOVE this show. You guys. Watch this show. Why aren’t you watching it? It is SO good!!! And let’s be real for a second, if you’re complaining about not enough diverse shows being on TV but you’re not watching this show… get yo life together!

If you’ve been following me on Twitter for awhile, you know how obsessed I am with Under the Dome every summer and by obsessed I mean even I don’t understand why I am always so ridiculously excited about this show. The show is great and I knew it would be, I just didn’t expect to be itching to watch it every week like I do. I think about this show every single day of the week when it’s on in the summer. Theorizing. Analyzing. This show is addicting in a way that freaks me out a little. And if you think for one second that I’m going to encourage you not to watch just in case you become an addict like me, you are mistaken. Watch this show!

I am super excited for Orange is the New Black! It is the Netflix show for me. I’m also very excited to see how the final season of Falling Skies concludes. I have a love hate relationship with this show as you may remember, I did stop watching for a few weeks this past season (which I also did in season 3) but of course I’ll be catching up on season 4 right before the final season. I just can’t help myself! I’m super pumped for Extant, highly anticipating the new direction for season two. Stay tuned for my continued recaps of Switched at Birth over on OMFGTV. And finally, I’m behind on The Strain and Chasing Life but maybe I’ll be all caught up in time for the season premieres? Only time will tell!

New Dramas
AQUARIUS (NBC, Thursday, May 28 9pm)
THE WHISPERS (ABC, Monday, June 1 10pm)
UNREAL (Lifetime, Monday, June 1 10pm)
STITCHERS (ABC Family, Tuesday, June 2 9pm)
SENSE8 (Netflix, Premieres Friday, June 5)
DARK MATTER (Syfy, Friday, June 12 10pm)
COMPLICATIONS (USA, Thursday, June 18 9pm)
KILLJOYS (Syfy, Friday, June 19 9pm)
MR. ROBOT (USA, Wednesday, June 24 10pm)
HUMANS (AMC, Sunday, June 28 9pm)

If you end up liking Aquarius, you can watch the entire 13 episode season online for four weeks beginning May 29th so you won’t have to wait for it to air on TV each week which is pretty awesome. As for Unreal… I think it’s safe to say that I’ll follow Shiri Appleby wherever she goes. Stitchers seems cool but I’m even more excited because my Syfy heart skipped two beats when I found out that Salli Richardson-Whitfield and Allison Scagliotti are both on this show! Yes, please! I hadn’t even heard of USA’s Complications until this week but I am so on board for this! Now…

My 3 Most Anticipated New Dramas Are…

MR. ROBOT
This award winning techno thriller follows Elliot (Rami Malek), a young programmer who works as a cyber-security engineer by day and a vigilante hacker by night. When the mysterious leader (Christian Slater) of an underground hacker group recruits him to destroy the firm he is paid to protect, he must make the decision of a lifetime. MR. ROBOT also stars Portia Doubleday (“Her”), Carly Chaikin (“Suburgatory”) and Martin Wallström (“Simple Simon”).

HUMANS
A bold new eight-part drama series from AMC, Channel 4 and Kudos, is set in a parallel present where the latest must-have gadget for any busy family is a ‘Synth’ – a highly-developed robotic servant eerily similar to its live counterpart. Written by British writing partnership Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley (Spooks, Spooks: The Greater Good), HUMANS is based on the award-winning Swedish sci-fi drama Real Humans. HUMANS stars William Hurt, Katherine Parkinson, Tom Goodman-Hill, Colin Morgan, Rebecca Front, Neil Maskell, and Gemma Chan.

DARK MATTER
The crew of a derelict spaceship is awakened from stasis with no memories of who they are or how they got on board. Facing threats at every turn, they have to work together to survive a voyage charged with vengeance, betrayal and hidden secrets.

New Comedy
Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp (Netflix, Wednesday, July 31)

No, I haven’t seen the movie, Wet Hot American Summer so I need to watch that soon. All I know is Amy Poehler, Elizabeth Banks, and Bradley Cooper are involved and that’s enough for me.

Returning Comedy
Playing House (USA, Tuesday, August 4 10pm)

This is truly one of the most enjoyable, charming, laugh out loud funny shows you’re not watching. I’m so glad that I started watching last summer. What a treat this show is. I am so excited that it was renewed because it’s a gem.

Returning Reality
Extreme Weight Loss (ABC, Tuesday, May 26 9pm)
Big Brother (CBS, Wednesday, June 24)
Hollywood Game Night (NBC, Tuesday, July 7 10pm)
Candidly Nicole (VH1, Wednesday, July 22 11pm)
Face Off (Syfy, Tuesday, July 28 9pm)
Million Dollar Listing: Los Angeles (Bravo)

You already know that my most anticipated reality return is Big Brother. That is not even a question. Are you new to the blog? Hi, I’m Melody and I’m a Big Brother addict. I can’t even rank the rest because I enjoy them all equally and just love knowing that these will all be on the air very shortly! It’s not Summer without these shows! Stay tuned for my usual recaps/reviews of Face Off!

New Reality
BECOMING US (ABC Family, Monday, June 8 9pm)
CELEBRITY FAMILY FEUD (ABC, Sunday, June 21)
MONICA THE MEDIUM (ABC Family, Monday, July 13 10pm)
GEEKS WHO DRINK (Syfy, Thursday, July 16 11pm)
HOME FREE (Fox, Wednesday, July 22 9pm)

I’m looking forward to learning more through Becoming Us about the journey a family goes through, particularly a young daughter and son when their parents are transgender. I’m not going to lie, I’m super nervous about Geeks Who Drink because shows with this format on Syfy usually don’t last long but we’ll see! Also, no, I totally won’t be watching Celebrity Family Feud every week. I’ll be DVRing the episodes that interest me and will watch when I get to them. This is totally not must see TV but at least worth a mention. And finally, I’m definitely checking out Monica the Medium because plainly put, it’s my kind of show and looking forward to checking out Home Free because it’s about dream homes and…yes.

Returning Variety
Hit Record on TV (Pivot, Friday, June 12 10pm)

I don’t have Pivot TV but for those who do, be sure to check this out, especially if you consider yourself to be a creator (writer, artist, etc…).

Currently Airing
YOUNGER (TV LAND, Tuesdays at 10pm)
Troy: Street Magic (Syfy, Tuesdays at 10pm)
Celebrity Wife Swap (ABC, Wednesdays at 10pm)
WAYWARD PINES (Fox, Thursdays at 9pm)
Lost Girl The Final Season (Syfy, Thursdays at 10pm)
THE MESSENGERS The First & Final Season (The CW, Fridays at 9pm)

Some of these shows may end before Summer officially begins (June 21st) but they’re still on the Summer TV schedule (which begins every May as Fall & midseason shows come to an end) so I thought I’d mention these as well! If you’re bookish, watch Younger and/or watch Wayward Pines after reading the book! If you like magic, watch Troy: Street Magic!

Return Date TBD
Rachael vs. Guy Kids Cook-Off (Food Network)
Continuum The Final Season (Syfy)
Heroes of Cosplay (Syfy)

There’s no premiere date set for any of the above. The first season of Rachael and Guy premiered in September while the second season premiered in August so I don’t know if the upcoming season will premiere in the Summer or Fall. Continuum usually airs in the Summer but no premiere date has been set for the final season so I’m not exactly sure what’s happening with this. Heroes of Cosplay has had pretty much zero promotion until like a week or two before the series returns each summer so I’m hoping that it does indeed return and it returns soon.

TV Movies
Sharknado 3 (Syfy, July 22 9pm)

I am so excited to kick back and watch basically every Syfy original movie there is this summer as I’ve done every Summer since forever. I grew up on Syfy and take great pleasure in marathoning their original movies. B movies are the absolute best. I cannot wait. You sit back and enjoy Sharknado but I challenge you to watch at least 3 more original Syfy movies, whether they are new or old. Enjoy!

Award Shows
8pm 69th Annual Tony Awards Sunday, June 7, 2015 on CBS
9pm The 74th Annual Peabody Awards Sunday, June 21, 2015 on Pivot

The Tonys = the absolute best awards show of the summer. Need I say more? As for the Peabody Awards, I don’t have Pivot TV so I’m sad to be missing that but hope if you get the chance to watch, you enjoy! And yes, the Teen Choice Awards airs this Summer but I don’t know if I will be watching so I left it off this list. I have been disinterested in recent years though I really do appreciate this awards show so I’ll probably have it on as background noise if I’m not busy.

What are you excited to watch this Summer?
